Boston College says students sick after eating at Chipotle

Man, Chipotle can't catch a break. There were 52 reported cases attributed to them alone since last week and that doesn't count however many have not been. And they can add another 30 to their tally. Possibly not even related to the existing outbreak. So a seperate outbreak of something then.

And people think Taco Bell is bad. :o

Boston College said on Monday that more than two dozen students, including members of the men's basketball team, got sick after eating at a Chipotle restaurant.

The Massachusetts Department of Health has been notified and is working to determine the cause of the apparent gastrointestinal illness.

The news comes amid an E. coli outbreak linked to other Chipotle Mexican restaurants that has made people sick in at least nine states since October.

"We do not have any evidence to suggest that this incident is related (to) the previous E. coli incident. There are no confirmed cases of E. coli connected to Chipotle in Massachusetts," Chipotle said in a statement.

The company temporary closed its Cleveland Circle location in Boston, where the students ate, while health officials investigate. Thirty students presented with gastrointestinal symptoms, according to Boston College spokesman Jack Dunn.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said last week that 52 people in nine states -- Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, California, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Oregon and Washington -- have become ill in the E. coli outbreak.

Most of them reported eating food from Chipotle within the week before their symptoms began. Twenty of those individuals have been hospitalized.

Symptoms, which include diarrhea and abdominal pain, usually begin two to eight days after a person has been exposed to the bacteria and resolve within a week.

Some cases are severe and patients can develop hemolytic uremic syndrome, or HUS, which is a type of kidney failure. There have been no cases of HUS or deaths from this outbreak.

If it was in Florida DJ would have been crushed. :p

How the **** does that happen...? Talk about beating the crap out of your brand though.

They could rebrand "Chipolte - You'll love it going in but not coming out!"

and at the malls here in bay area..people are still just eating this. Once i heard
about the 1st outbreaks up northwest...that was it no more for me

To be more appropriate, if disgusting, it's actually quite loose.

I can't believe how much time they spend boasting about the free range chicken, the non-GMO foods, the organic beans, the veggies from healthy soil, and they can't even handle e.coli. It's so embarrassing.

Thank goodness, it's not Qdoba.

I don't care if it's wrong, I'll take Taco Bell over Chipotle any day. :o

I stopped going to Chipotle after they started getting stingy with the servings.

The last time I went, the burrito was literally the size of my wallet. Haven't been back since, especially with places like Qdoba, Currito, and Hothead.

Chipotle is too damn stingy sometimes. It's some bulls***.

I couldn't really think of a good poop joke. I just wanted to say that.

They do all the buzz word worthy things despite most of them being meaningless and yet e.coli still doesn't give a **** but it sure as hell makes sure everyone else does.

Norovirus is the cause of the closure of the Boston Chipotle restaurant

E Coli in all the other states....

I'm never eating at Chipotle again.

I live and work in Boston.

I suppose Qdoba and Baja Fresh are awaiting Chiptole's folks to flock their doors.

Seconded! Taco Bell all the way. It's my favorite guilty pleasure food. :drl:

If I want something fresher (like Chipotle claims to be), I just make my own burritos. Saves money, and a lot of waiting in line. Every time I go to my local Chipotle (which isn't often), it's always ridiculously crowded. Ain't nobody got time for that!

My chipotle gives you so much that the bowls and tortilla shells are overflowing.

This sucks that they cant get a handle on this e. coli situation. Ill probably go back there after its been a while without anymore reported e. coli cases, but until then Im avoiding Chipotles.

Yeah, I'm done with Chipotle. It's just not worth it. And the sodium content is out of this world. The chips are practically worse than the burritos.

Taco Bell rocks. Screw it. It just rocks.

The local chains in Boston are all better (and cheaper) than Chipotle anyways.... ex: Anna's Taqeuria, Tenoch, etc.

I actually like Chipotle. But that is way too many news reports about e. coli.

I've had Chipoodle's food before and they're pretty much a lot about nothing... they definitely ain't all that...

Yeah, I'm taking a break from Chipotle as well. Though their cheese is so damn good. Their guacomole is amazing but overpriced like hell. And their beans always f***s my stomach up. I can part with it.
