Ok so a little back story is I used to buy a lot of comics from Marvel and I stopped all together because of what I saw as stupid ideas. I'd come to this site just to keep tabs of what was going on and read Dread's awesome Bought/Thought posts....seriously dude get your own website, I'd join. So i decided that I was gonna try Marvel out and I bought the complete Annihilation series from Amazon. Read the first one and book one of Conquest and I must say I am enjoying it. I was a little upset over Quasar's death and I really dont like Captain Marvel's daughter but other than that its completely enjoyable. I may consider getting Nova on a regular basis.....sure im still absolutely upset over the demonic divorce in Spider-man.

You have my attention Marvel...dont screw it up!

ANNIHILATION and the space books that have come after it have been pretty good. Glad you're coming aboard. And thanks for the praise. :)

so what are some good books to pick up

The spidey OMD thing along with the constant 'events' and the fact that avengers are nothing but tie in stories anymore are the reason I'm going from collecting a crazy amount of marvel books to collecting very very few (Cap A still has my trust for now anyways).

I've cut my list quite a bit,but your best bets are Daredevil,Cap,Thor,Iron Fist,Herc and War Machine.

Since you seem to like Annhilation, there are two books that came directly from them, Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy (these are probably the ones that Dread is referring to....). Both are really good books and get good reviews around here. I don't think you could go wrong with either of them.

Captain Britain and The MI:13 is good. No BS just straight forward superhero team book like the Avengers before they all went nuts and started killing each other.

I'm enjoying Ghost Rider too and Thor is more enjoyable right now than him and his little side of Marvel have been in a long time.

God, I've never liked Marvel's cosmic tales before, but after going so long hearing nothing but praise and acclaim for Annihilation, my hand may be forced.

What he said. All of those are really, really good.

I'll add Skaar though. It's basically all the best parts of Planet Hulk mixed with all the best parts of Conan. It rocks.

Roach, Marvel lost me for a few years, as well, but recently, I found that some of the books were just too good to pass up. Daredevil and Invincible Iron Man are always great, and are both locked onto my pull list. Iron Fist has been consistently very good, and I while didn't care for the whole Captain America assassination thing, the stories and art are currently quite solid. They've been doing great work with the Hulk, recently, as well.

Just as long as its not Loebs run with Red Hulk, I mean how the hell do you have a Hulk title and not focus on Bruce Banner?:bh:

Yeah, I personally didn't take an interest in the Red Hulk thing. I'm not buying it at all. But there are plenty of other stories in the recent past that are worth picking up.

Naturally if you liked ANNIHILATION I suggest reading the sequel, ANNIHILATION CONQUEST, which is out in two trades. Ongoings include NOVA and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, which are all written by Abnett & Lanning, the duo who wrote Nova's 4 issue mini for ANNIHILATION.

It goes without saying that Brubaker's run on CAPTAIN AMERICA is worth catching up on via Omnibus and trades.

INCREDIBLE HERCULES is also a good book to catch on with. The current run started with INCREDIBLE HULK's WWH story where he teams up with Cho and the Renegades and then the title changes. Via two trades, an overpriced mini-HC and back-issues one can catch up. NOVA, CAPTAIN AMERICA and INCREDIBLE HERCULES are probably my three favorite Marvel titles right now and among the best comics I read now in general (since I also read some DC and Image titles too, like BOOSTER GOLD and INVINCIBLE).

CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI-13 is another good book that could use as many people grabbing the first trade and snapping up some back-issues as it can.

Dan Slott is about to start a run on MIGHTY AVENGERS #21 that will likely be worth paying an extra buck an issue, although in the era of $3.99 comics if you would rather trade wait, I don't blame you.

IMMORTAL IRON FIST has also had a good launch from Brubaker & Fraction for the first 18 issues, and the new writer from CABLE actually managed a decent arc afterward. If you still have some money left after the other recommendations, snap that up. One of Marvel's better relaunches.

thanks all i will look into all your fine reccomendations

Awesome.

AGENTS OF ATLAS is returning and they just re-released the trade of the first mini by Jeff Parker and Leonard Kirk, so it may be a decent time to hop aboard that, too. It's a super-team with a very interesting gimmick and some wonky 50's characters.

In addition to what everyone else has said, I recommend X-Factor.

I think the issues will be $2.99 after Slott's first one. At least, Marvel's website lists issues 22 and 23 as $2.99.
