Is there not one of these already? Okay, sure.

Deadpool

Surprisingly unterrible! Wade now has multiple internal monologues, or some ****? Whatever, he kills an assload of skrulls and blows up one of their ships with a package labeled "TNT" and that's all I really ask.

I dunno it could just be my insanely low expectations due to this being written by Daniel Way, but I actually enjoyed the comic!

Secret Invasion

Following ultraconservative Mark Millar's racial stereotyping spectacle in Wanted, Bendis decides to display his own far-right ideology with several pages of gratuitous hippie-bashing. It's not surprising considering the way these two wear their dyed-in-the-wool pro-Republican colors, but it's disappointing that Marvel has so openly embraced this sort of biased, reactionary storytelling.

Past that there were a lot of static panels of people striking fight-scene-like poses, which I guess you'd be into if you were really into like, superhero costume fashion modeling. Also, lots of people stand around and talk! Reed FIGURED IT OUT. Cause he's a SMART GUY! He's gonna stop you - WITH HIS GUN! Oh man, that's what I call writing! (I think Fury must have been giving Reed gun-envy. I mean who wouldn't have it, Fury's is just SO BIG.) Also the Thor-Cap meetup happens, in which the two heroes display their superhuman capacity for stating the obvious. On the plus side - no really, there is one! - Bendis overcomes his massive preach-reflex from last issue and writes the skrull conquest speech with actual ambiguity!

All in all I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who is a fan of terrible comics. If you're one of those nuts who likes things that are I don't know, good or something - just get right out of here, you big weirdo!

I take it that it was a fabulous issue? (of suckage) :woot:

Are you serious?

Millar, in particular, is a total lefty socialist.

You are joking right? Mark Millar is a complete and total leftie.

The way he wrote the Ultimates was a criticism of American military and foreign policy.

He's stated "I can look at America and see what's going on and sometimes you need that viewpoint. Maybe you're too close too see that you are sleepwalking towards fascism. You need a snotty European to come along and tell you this."

He says he's a liberal. As a matter in fact he comes off as one of those incredibly annoying liberals who see that their viewpoint has no flaws whatsoever and everyone else's is wrong.

War Heroes is being written in an alternate future where John McCain is President and has invaded Iran.

I'm liberal, but God Damn do I hate the kids who march around with signs.

I went to a university that was like 90% democrat; at 7 AM one morning, before the U.S. officially declared war on Iraq, some of the kids had a demonstration, culminating with like 15 kids marching around the quad saying some ridiculous catch phrase.

What was the point? 90% of my university didn't vote for Bush anyway, so they were basically just preaching to the choir, and in the process, interrupting my REM cycle.

So, if a few protestors get killed by Skrulls, I'm not going to mind at all.

Amazing Spider-Man 571
NWTD continues into part 4 where you start to realize something...as fun as this arc is, i'ts just not anything big. I mean, by BND standards, its the best arc yet. But lets say you are one of the many seven BND-era Spidey fans. Let's say you're trying to convert people into BND-era Spidey readers, or bring back an old-school Spidey fan. On the one hand, NWTD is the best you're gonna be able to offer, compared to all the previous post-OMD arcs. On the other hand, NWTD is not enough. I'm a huge Venom fanatic, and that's all I'm here for. It's like NWTD is a fatty food, and I'm enjoying the cancer-causing empty calories and trans fats, but they aren't necessary. Seriously, this story, fine as it is, could have been told without BND. It has the modern day yet old-school-ish feel, like a Howarrd Makie-era Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol. 2 arc (but good), not to mention Romita, Jr.'s art.

The all-out action from part 3 overlaps into this issue. It's still all action, except now instead of Venom vs. Anti-Venom vs. Spider-Man, it's Anti-Venom & Spider-Man vs. the thunderbolts + Norman Osborn vs. Menace (Mock Goblin). Unlike the previous parts, espcially parts 2 & 3, all the subplots here do NOT progress as much as in the aforementioned chapters. We get to learn a little more about how the Anti-Venom symbiote differs from the traditional Venom symbiote, we see what Norman thinks of Menace, and...that's pretty much it. Get past the writing, and it's pretty much a good giant fight scene, yet not as good part 3.

I'm not quite seeing what everyone else sees in Dan Slott's writing, and although I was a huge fan of JR JR's art, and I still like it, I'm not feeling it like I used to. With Slott, his writing is good, but its nothing exceptional. Is that what's great about it? That it's simple? I mean, I'm glad he's not taking Spidey into the realm of mystic totems and life-changing-never-be-the-same crap, but for me it feels a lot like I'm reading one of my own Spidey fanfics! It's just a little too simple.

C+ - B- I could go either way. Not really buying a lot of comics until the end of the month.

Yeah, Mark Millar would only be considered a "conservative" in Bizarro World. He's very obviously an extremist Liberal. Most comic book writers are liberal, it just comes to varying degrees. I'm a Democrat but I'm a moderate in many areas and I do tire of the heavy drum-beating of either party.

Comic reviews will probably wait until tomorrow. I bought BOOSTER GOLD #12, DYNAMO 5 #16, INVINCIBLE #52, BIG HERO 6 #1, SECRET INVASION #6 & SI: RUNAWAYS/YOUNG AVENGERS #3.

On a lark, I flipped through GREEN ARROW/BLACK CANARY #12 in the shop and without reading many of the words, can understand BrianWilly's sentiment. Is that good or bad for the title? ;)

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Really? REALLY?

First off, Millar is so far to the left he's practically in San Francisco. Second, Bendis is a Hillary supporter. You base this off a scene with hippies? God, I love this board sometimes. It's like watching Fox News. Hysterical, but you can't help but shed a tear over the ignorance.

So, here's the dealie. Skipped last week because one of the few books I really was looking forward to was shorted to my shop (Amazing). According to the owner, they won't have it until next week, now. So, if it DOES show up next week, I'll have 3 issues to read. Kinda cool, I suppose, but I forgot how much it sucks waiting in between issues. Ah well.

Secret Invasion- PICK OF THE WEEK! I liked seeing everyone kind of rise together again. The Fury/Thor line was pure gold. Is it a lot of build up? Sure, but I'm still enjoying the hell out of it. 9/10

Transformers: Animated- I love the cartoon. I have become so completely sold on it in the last month, and this book... wow. It just perfectly captures the feel and tone of the show. Unlike the Beast Wars book (which tried to tip-toe around continuity), this works through the cracks and features the main cast, in addition to the other bit players. Doesn't hurt that one of the show's writers is the book's writer. Love it. 9/10

Runaways/Young Avengers- Awesome mini. Yost has been on fire lately, and Miyazawa is just fantastic. This was the best thing to happen to both sets of characters since their last volumes. 9/10

Invincible Ironman- This kid has balls. Seriously. You walk into Stark Enterprises wearing that? Cold, kid, cold. There's nothing left to say. This book is like reviewing Captain America: great story, great art, perfect characterization... if you loved the movie, there is NO excuse why you shouldn't be reading this. 9/10

Wolverine- This book is just plain insanity. It's beautiful in every way. 9/10

Punisher War Journal- As much as this arc has been an up and down ride for me, seeing Rhino come back was a great moment. 8/10

Amazing Spider-Girl- FINALLY! Seriously, 24 issues to dump that jackass? Geez... the story finally gets to the conflict that's been building for the last few issues, and I'm ready to see what we're headed for. Great cliffhanger. 7/10

Transformers: Saga of the Allspark- The stories feel kind of like filler, but damn, sexy artwork is keeping me reading. As usual, Furman has his passionate love for z-list bots. 7/10

Secret Invasion: Front Line- I love the idea, but the book just doesn't match the same level of intensity as, say, Walking Dead. It's creepy watching the skrulls butcher these poor souls, but there isn't the same tangible sense of dread. It's not for lack of trying. Reed seems to be giving it his best, but... not feeling the adrenaline rush I was hoping for. Maybe I shoulda held out for the trade. 6/10

Jesus christ, Deadpool was awful and apparently Mephisto made Norman Osborn a complete dumbass. :o

The Avengers Assemble splash page at the end of Secret Invasion was totally awesome. Howard the Duck was even there, which was extra brownie points. :D

Still have to read SI: Inhumans, Ultimate Origins, King Size Cable, and Big Hero Six.

Liberal yet you don't mind protesters getting killed, alrighty then.

Anyways I read SI #6 and it was decent but it was just another build up issue. Recapped some stuff thats already happened, brings home the point that everyones screwed, lets just hope Reed and the rest of the heroes don't come back from the Savage Land feeling feisty... Low and behold they do, but the Wasp is a Skrull so she'll singlehandedly screw up their effort.

Nick Fury's BFG continues to make rage, and I don't think we see Thor or Cap right until the end, nothing really happens and it ends with the awesome confrontation that will presumably be seen in SI #7, unless they save it for #8 and give us a final filler issue with the psychology of the Skrulls exposed.

Also got Deadpool and I was entertained. As mentioned he singlehandedly did more damage in a short fight then it seems anyone else has been able to do during this Invasion.... And although I understand its a comedy book, its still part of the continuity and he seemed a bit overpowered. Anyways despite the havoc he created, he still ends up being overwhelmed in the end and apparently has joined the Skrulls.
Is it a clever ploy to get on the inside and **** them over, or is he just being the insane turncoat he is and fighting on the wining side?

They also had a summary of Deadpool's life at the end of the comic, which was nice for someone who isn't completely familiar with the character.

I'm not sure what I expected when I decided to parody the aggrieved hyperventilation of conservatives on this board every time Millar or Bendis or whoever sets off their BIAS!!!! reflex, but having every single one of them buy it hook, line and sinker was like a thousand times better than anything I could have come up with.

It's like watching Fox News. Hysterical, but you can't help but shed a tear over the ignorance.

It sure is, buddy. It sure is.

He's stated "I can look at America and see what's going on and sometimes you need that viewpoint. Maybe you're too close too see that you are sleepwalking towards fascism. You need a snotty European to come along and tell you this."
I'm an American and I can see the tyranny and ******** "we know what's best for you" ideology that's being excepted all across the country.

But **** "right wing" and "left wing" because this year we absolutely 0 choice. Obama and McCain both talk about change but they both represent the same status quo that's been around for years.

Second, Bendis is a Hillary supporter.
I believe he may have been at one point but he just said on a podcast interview (one of those things he does on Jinxworld where everybody asks questions on a thread and then he answers every single one) that he's voting for Obama.

Hahaha! Poor fifthfiend!

Of all the special, special people here, you're the specialest.

Hey wanna hear a joke?

Two guys walk into the bar.

...

RON PAUL'S PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN!

Bwahahaha! Now that's comedy.

Patsy Walker: Hellcat! 3

Exclamation mark not in the actual title but it totally should be. Three issues in and I have no idea what's going on in this book, but I'm almost entirely sure I'm enjoying it, probably!

Buffy 18

Week-old comics review is go! Evil depowered Willow, actually an improvement relative to Evil Willow! Gibberish-Spouting Fray with bonus Suckered By the Villain Action... the opposite of an improvement on something. And come on, they kill the fish-dude? Weak.

Secret Invasion: Inhumans 2

Read it because the cover promised Medusa being hot and awesome. Issue did not disappoint:up:

I'm generally of the mind that torture is waaaaay overdone as a plot device these days, but torturing a Skrull by turning it into not a skrull? That was just inspired.

Yeah, I'm a regular over there. In all honesty, anyone that was a Hillary supporter that decides to vote for McCain now is an idiot, anyway. Bendis has much more intellect than that.

Wonder Woman #24
"I'm thousands of years too old for this *&^%"

This issue starts off with Wonder Woman taking Tom Tresser to Paradise Island (via her new magical flying seashell) to meet her mom. Yes, it appears their relationship has actually gotten that serious. I know some people here hate Tom because of the way a certain non-comic writer (*coughPicoultcough*) portrayed him, but he's been overall tolerable during Simone's run. When they reach the island, Tom helps Hippolyta feed the island's pet griffins while they discuss his intentions with Diana. In the end, not only does Hippolyta approve of Tom, but she makes him an honorary Amazon. Oh, and she tells Tom to give her some grandkids. I kid you not, the Queen of the Amazons utters the phrase "Babies, babies, babies."

And of course, as Hippolyta talks about having more kids around the island, that crazy bald b**** from a few arcs ago (you know, the lady who tried to kill Diana when she was born) is seen standing on top of a nearby cliff, watching them all.

But there's no time to dwell on Diana and Tom's relationship. Someone in Hollywood is making an unauthorized bio-pic on Wonder Woman's life, and Diana has to take a trip to Hollywood. Wearing her special blue cape for this occasion, Diana arrives at the movie studio with two advisors in tow. Sorry, let me try that again. She has two super-intelligent white gorillas carrying brief cases in tow. As a formality, the studio wants Diana to endorse the movie. Diana decides to sit in on one of the scenes being filmed, in which an actress somehow more scantily clad than the real Diana battles an actor playing Hercules. Diana calls for the movie to be canned when she learns that the hack writers have written a love triangle between Diana, Hercules, and Hippolyta. Her protests don't go on for very long, however, as she is quickly attacked by some JLA villain I've never heard of (and had to look up) named The Queen of Fables. Thus the issue is set up for the actual plot for next month's issue.

Gail Simone's plots for this book tend to be kinda weird, but it looks like she's having fun by playing with the character relationships. And the characters are fine. In fact, I think Simone could do a little more to show Diana and Tom's relationship. If she has one major flaw while writing this book, it's that she has a habit if characters saying things about themselves without showing it. Diana and Tom are serious, but I had no idea until Tom told Hippolyta. Diana still claims to feel some of that dark force from the previous storyarc in her soul, which will probably never be shown on-page.

Anyway, this story is intended to be sort of a filler, and it felt like it.

Booster Gold #12
Do prepare to have a cap busted in your ass.

The issue starts off with Batman's butler Alfred wielding a shotgun. Not just wielding it, but shooting it with intent to blow Booster and Goldy away. As if stealing Batman's costume wasn't bad enough, the time-hopping duo (and Skeets, of course) sneak into Babs Gordon's bedroom at her dad's house, where Goldstar attempts to steal the Batgirl costume. When Jim Gordon sees Batgirl and some unknown dude in a gold suit attacking Babs, he unleashes the whole of the Gotham City Police Department on their asses.

So let's review: in the previous issue, Booster screwed up the timeline so badly, that he needed to pose as Batman to go back even further and fix his time-snafu. In his attempt to do so, he even further screws up time by basically making Batgirl a fugitive. Good work there, Buster.

At the very end of this issue, the Elongated Man (remember, this takes place in the past) shows up at the museum and notices a particular knife is missing. What does this mean? I don't know, but next month's issue apparently deals with Starro.

Green Arrow & Black Canary #12
*sigh* Let me sum up everything that's happened since Ollie & Dinah's wedding with all the new information we have...

-For unknown reasons, Dr. Sivana (yes, the Captain Marvel villain) wants Green Arrow (Ollie) dead. He helped organize Ollie's kidnapping and placed him in Amazon custody. He also was behind Everyman posing as Ollie during the wedding.
-Meanwhile, Shado's son (Robert, who is also Ollie's son. Because he's a man-****) has cancer. With modern medicine useless, Shado turned to Dr. Sivana for help. Sivana agreed to help Shado's son if Shado killed Green Arrow. With Ollie being her's baby-daddy, Shado was too ashamed to try to kill Ollie directly, so she used a holographic device to disguise herself as Ra's Al Ghul, and formed a farce League of Assassins to kill Ollie should he attempt to leave whatever island the Amazons were holding him.
-As we learned previously, the infamous Cloud Sniper was aiming for Ollie when he hit Connor. Shado had Connor's comatose body seized by her League of Rubes, who also kidnapped Plastic Man for Sivana. It turns out Sivana wanted to use Plas' regenerative abilities in some of his experiments.
-In the end, Sivana found a way to cure cancer and bring Connor out of his braindead coma. He put them under mind-control so they'd attack Shado, the Arrow Family, Batman, and that one bloke who's been following them. After sedating Connor and Robert, they take them to STAR Labs, where their mind control devices are removed, and Connor seems to finally be conscious.
-Oh, and Shado's son Robert has somehow been transformed by Sivana from a 8 year old kid to a 17 year old.

So let's review:
Shado disguised herself as Al Ghul to form the League to kidnap Connor to please Sivana to cure the cancer to swallow the cat to catch the bird to swallow the bird to catch the spider to swallow the spider to catch the fly...

And I don't know why
I bothered to buy

King-Size Cable #1
The man called "Nay-Nay."

The Messiah Baby (who I refuse to admit is Jean unless explicitly stated on-page) is now a toddler, likely close to 2 years old. She's walking and running on her own, and starting to talk. She's even calling Cable "Nay-Nay." Now, I get that his name is really Nathan, but you just gotta figure he told her to call him Nay-Nay.

Meanwhile, the villain formerly known as an actual character (you once knew him as Bishop) is running into some trouble when it comes to tracking down Cable. Everywhere Cable goes, he leaves booby-traps waiting for Bishop. Sometimes it's as simple as an exploding doll at some place Cable and the baby were once living at. Sometimes it's complicated stuff, like Cable saving a village full of people and telling them a baby-killer will come looking for him, allowing himself to grow into a legendary hero and myth, and letting the townspeople attack Bishop years later when he finally passes through.

Bishop has also noticed a pattern, and has figured out that Cable can only jump forward in time. What will this mean for our hero and his young ward? Probably more of the same cat-&-mouse. I'm getting a little tired of it, actually.

I do want the Cable book to move on from Cable protecting the baby from Bishop. I'm actually really tired of the whole baby mutant messiah thing period.

Uh, what? How does a guy who wants universal health care, promotes a 10 year plan by which there is no foreign oil in America, consistenly votes against corporate tax breaks for shipping jobs elsewhere and wants to end the occupation Iraq representing the same status quo that's been around for years?

You can disagree with his policies, but to lump him in with the establishment is absurd.

Hahaha Manic wins best review of the week.

Did anyone else read Young Liars #7? Does anyone read Young Liars at all? I've been really, really enjoying this book so far, but I think my enjoyment just tripled with the arrival of #7. Holy crap. I knew there was going to be a weird backstory for Sadie, but I had no idea it would this kind of weird.
