With Frozen 2 and Star Wars coming up it looks like there will be at least nine billion dollar movies this year. Maybe there could be ten if for example Jumanji does better than expected.

I've been thinking this for a few days, but does anyone see the possibility of ROTS not cracking $200 million opening weekend? Make no mistake, this movie will make a billion and be a hit, and I wouldn't be shocked it cracked that or above, but I also wouldn't be shocked if it didn't crack it. I don't see this movie underperforming like Solo, but I can see it not being the giant hit everyone is assuming it will be. And no, TLJ being a "horrible movie" and "wrecking everything" is not going to be the major or sole reason why. I think it could have more to do with people not being as invested in these characters and story because it hasn't really gone much anywhere. I think people have been casually bored by them and it's more like a slowly deflating balloon. Again, the brand recognition and the foundation of these movies being more popular is enough cushion to prevent it from being a Solo, but for the third film in this franchise, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't finish off on as huge of a note financially.

Historically, third movies in a series tick back up after the lesser grossing second movie, but I just don't see the hype like I do with a conclusion like other third movies. Is the general public really is as invested in these characters are story as its believed? I don't really think so.

Yeah, I can see that happening. Probably in the $175-$185 range.

Frozen 2 joining the 2019 billion dollar club soon.

Crazy to think that 8 of the top ten movies of the year (I'm counting RoS, I think we're all pretty sure it'll get to top 10) are Disney properties or collaborations, and will have made at least 1 billion dollars.

Also in regard to something someone put a few posts back. I'm sure SW:RoS will do well, but yes it does feel like a connection is missing, or was severed, from the source material, and that will prevent it from reaching it's full potential. What makes it even weirder is that with the Mandalorian, I still see an instance where a non-Skywalker driven story could achieve great potential.

As annoyed as I am by the Baby Yoda character in principle, notice how that's caught fire and become a pop culture fixation right now and not anything from these movies. Which you'd think they would.

Again, ROS will do gangbusters and the envy of most movies financially, but I think at this point people will be seeing it out of obligation and devotion to the brand and the inherent strength of the brand than actual investment of where the characters and where the story is going like an Endgame sort of thing. They're marketing it and making it seem like it's some great big ending, but it's so unearned.

I just don't think people are gonna come out of this like a typical finale. People will like it, have fun, and then forget about it. Christmas and the holidays will provide a nice spot as it's the best option to see at the movies, but this isn't gonna be a phenom like TFA was. This should be bigger than TFA if they did this right.
