So I was checking out my Diamond Previews catalog ( for you non-comics nerds, it's the ordering catalog for all comic book stores ) and every month they do their Top 100 titles sold. What struck me is that what characters make a top selling comic these days equates to what is top at the box office. Hear me out:
At the top almost every month is an X-Men title, usually followed by a Spider-Man title. Then the following two big franchise comics are Batman and Superman. as you get to the bottom of the top 50, you get to the Fantastic Four books and Hulk and Daredevil, etc. It's almost the exact same "ranking" in terms of Box Office for those respective characters, with the obvious big difference of Spider-Man far out grossing the X-men movies. But it does seem like the comics that sell the most also sell the most movie tickets.
It's funny how although the general public doesn't read comics, it's taste in comic book characters is almost the equivelant. So that being said, it will be almost no surprise that Superman's final take will be around that of Batman's. They sell about the same amount of comics, and Spidey outsells them both.
