Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

I'm not sure his origin with Galactus would be the direction they'd go in. At one point when the solo Surfer movie was in development, before they put him into FF 2, they were envisioning it as kind of a superhero version of ET: the Surfer finds himself in a suburb, meets and makes friends with a lonely, unhappy kid, the Surfer teaches the kid wisdom, the kid teaches the Surfer about humanity. That's the approach they might still take. It would certainly be the cheapest way to go, and in keeping with their family comedy take on the whole FF/Surfer franchise.

Oh dear lord this is typical FOX. Please just leave him in the comics.

Yeah the TF movie will be a juggernaut come July 3.

Everyone keep saying that TF is going to be huge, like it's going to rake in 400 million domestically. I don't think so. I think it'll make 250 million domestically max. I may be wrong, but TF won't be like POTC, Shrek or Spiderman. Those films cross all demographics, while I think TF won't. I'm hugly looking foward to TF, but I know people who have no intertest in seeing it, even my two nieces who are 11 and 13 could care less about seeing it as well as F4 2, but wanted to see POTC, Shrek and SM3. The only positive i see that could cuase TF to make 300-420 million domestically would be that huge Robots like this is something that's really never been seen on screen.

seems ALOT of people underestimating transformers :trans:

It opens on Wednesday right? Also whatever it takes will be a bite out of trasnformers no matter how small. Personally I'd rather see DH4 than Transformers.

I want to see both HP and Transfomers but I wish they had released DH4 after HP. Releasing it before HP and Transformers is suicide. I'm still crossing my fingers that DH4 will still do fairly well.

Oh, I'm not underestimating Bay's ability to pander to the lowest common denominator. I'm just wondering if all that pretty CGI is going to be nearly as fufilling when people realize that Transformers has no good plot to speak of.

I really wish they didn't put that scene in the tv spot...it would've been jaw-dropping to see that on the big screen for the first time.

I heard the Autobots play a secondary role to the Army in taking on the Decepticons? While I'm not all that geeked about this film, seems that ALOT of people are, at least, alot of posters on these boards are. Hope the film does well, sandwiched as it is, chances for any records are iffy. Over the years, Pixar movies have been as stable and consistent as it gets, and they are a sure lock on the international market, and HP, well, with the final book of the series...forget it...complete bananas there.

Its hard to truly "geek" out about Transformers...name association alone will propell this movie way past 200m...of course thats just my prediction...me, I grew up watching the transformers cartoon and collecting the toys...me and my brothers cried when were 6 years old and saw the animated transformers movie and Optimus Prime died....I gaurantee you that nobody my age that lost touch with transformers after all the other "big" trends in the late 80's and early 90's are not going into this one picking it apart...we want to see some hardcore robot on robot action and mass destruction...Bay has proven his strengths in the action drama...but can't seem to balance the over-the-top commercial popcorn garbage that he throws in to serious movies like Pearl Harbor...or even the Island...well, I suppose you could call this a re-newal of contract for him...its a movie based on a friggin' toyline...that became a cartoon and spawned an entire following and fanbase that most people only associate with comicbook geeks and D&D or StarWars...I haven't followed a Transformers story line in almost 15years...me and millions of others who most definitely did not follow transformers after adolesence other than the toys we still had stored in the attic/garage/or basement...right there in a box next to GI Joes and He-Man...bottom line, this movie doesn't have to be accurate nor does it need to be serious...it just needs to come to life and looks like they've done just that.

almost back on topic though...sorry, i was at work all day and was hoping to chime in on the DieHard 4 talk...I checked out RT and have to say that all this hype over its 80%+ rating so far is a bit funny...first, there aren't that many reviews available yet...and how many of these publications and their critics does FOX have in their pockets after the FF2 reviews...just a thought...don't jump on me for saying that...but don't ever rule politics and bs like that out...anyway I wanted to point out this negative reviewer

by a Mr. Kevin Laforest of the Montreal Film Journal, I guess he didn't do his research and is unaware of McTiernan's recent legal trouble:rolleyes:

I think I'd rather see Ratatouille than DH4 personally. Bummed that FF2 is plummeting like this though. How's it doing overseas?

Number one in Australia at the moment, but that may change with Transformers starting this week....

That's not true, it will break even, it's even going to make a profit, but it's not going to be as big of a profit as the last movie.

It's allready at 154 WW. That's allmost half the WW total of the 1st, and it has over 30 overseas markets to open in. So it will be fine. Geez stop worrying. It will make money, there will be a 3. Same cast, same crew. Book it.

Same disappointment.

Please stop showing awesome scenes that I don't want to see until I'm in the theater. I haven't been watching any TV spots for this very reason. I avoided them with FF2 as well.

You really think a Michael Bay film will be awesome? LOL!!

I'm trying to be optimistic. Scenes like that DO look awesome.

Then you are a very optimistic person if you think Transformers will be any good. That clip may look nice, but trust me, the story will be terrible.

Transformers will look great.

However, the story and characters are where I am concerned.

Did you read the script or the novelization or something?
