Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

A friend of mine recently said:
"When it costs tens of millions to make with the idea of bringing in hundreds of millions, it seems obvious to me that what any of these movies is 'about' is the lowest common denominator."

I couldn't agree more.

FF2 is entering it's last million dollar plus week, and most likely it's last week of any significant wide release. If it doesn't over $129 million after next week, I don't see how it'll break even domestically.

Transformers, though, held up extremely well. :trans:

TF should do at least $ 275 mil and has a good shot at $ 300 mil.

Did you purposely put the cool smiley next to the DH4 numbers GL ?:woot:

Weekend estimates are in. FF 2 $ 127,144,000 dom. $ 225,158,572 WW. TF's $ 222,990,000 dom. $ 320,197,996 WW. HP $ 140,017,000 dom. $ 169,217,000 WW. All #'s thru 7-15.

Well, if you ever do watch it, expect a paper thin story but lots and lots of awesome robot action and destruction.

You're not telling me anything I did not know before it was released. All action, no substance. All action, no heart or soul. Charactors you could not give a hoot about. This was robot distruction for what noone knows. Most reviews I have seen compaire it to a video game. A video game on the big screen.

Bottom line is that Tim Story and Fox FAILED miserably.
For all the talk of not being able to do 30 feet giants walking through cities, the Transformers BLEW IT AWAY!
both in BO as well as in action, directing, acting, and overall quality.
Transformers is what the FF could and SHOULD have been.
It made more money its first FIVE DAYS than FF has made so far.

it's time to jump off that wagon.

by wagon I mean the Tim Story/Fox wagon, not the FF wagon.

You don't have to jump off the wagon. I'll push you off. More room for the fans. :woot: And I hope the wagon is going around the edge of a cliff when I push you off. Disapointment ? Yes. Failure ? NO. Story back ? YES. Payne back ? YES. Frost back ? Show him the enterence to the negative zone, then push him in and bolt the door.

Your remarks of it being all action and no heart or soul are invalid, you know, since you apparently haven't even seen the movie yet. :o

Carpy's just made thats all. hey i liked Ff2 but i'll admit i liked DH4 and :trans: Just a little bit more. But all three of those movies plus 2 others are in my top 5 of the year so far.

I'm hoping the WW box office really takes off. Because, FF ROTSS still hasn't been released in China, Japan and most of Europe, which are three of the biggest markets outside of the US and UK (and yes i know the UK is in Europe).
So, hopefully, things can still pick up :D

I'm not worried about it. it has 20 more markets to open in. It will be a suscess when it is all said and done. To call it a failure is unjust and unfair at this time. Disapointment ? Deffenitly, so far. Overseas will carry this movie. It will make $ 130 domestic

I've read the movie at moviespoiler, and that told me everything I need to know. Shallow charactors with no depth, paper thin story, ( they had to make up something ), all action with the robots. I think the robots we're 90 % of the movie. The humans were put there as filler.

Having seen it for myself, I can say that the robots were not 90% of the time. But, the robots did have some heart and soul to them *cough*Bumblebee*cough*, as well as the humans, like Shia LaBeouf's character.

Yeah there's a good 10 to 15 mins without the TF's on screen.

you do realise that all of this was said about FF2 as well right ?

Sure, but we all know FF, and FF 2 have a heart and soul. It's not all mindless, for what purpose action. Reading the action scene at the end of TF's, reminded me of the Rock Em Sock Em Robots I had as a kid.

Carp *sighs* this is just getting crazy its not your need to defend FF2 and piss on everything else that comes into contact with FF2.

Isn't it ironic how a movie you loathe so much (especially for not having seen it) is going to gross as much money as both Fantastic Four movies combined?

OK this thread has kinda gone off the deep end. I saw Transformers and liked it, I gave it an 8/10.

The only thing I'd say in comparison to FF, is that it's hypocritical of those who claimed the FF was too childish, and then said Transformers was the best film of the summer.

The fanboys have kind of overrun this forum, and it's unfortunate. It's unfortunate because neither film deserves to be ripped.

I'm going to do this as a mass warning, because I'm just too tired to go through and quote......

We can talk about other BO's along with FF2, WITHOUT the childish, bickering........you know who you are......don't show yourself front and center by replying to this post....JUST STOP THE TF VS. FF crap....NOW....the next posts that move back to this childish drivel will be deleted......TALK BO, take your childish slap fight some place else.
