Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

I'm so bad at guessing these kind of things but I do predict that FF2 will outgross the first film:D Final gross will probably be around 190-210.

Well let's hope that you are correct for the first time.....:cwink:

The PG rating will surely help the box office for this franchise. The opposite effect happened for films like Riddick and AVP that needed to have a higher rating for certain.

^^

Sorry, but the rating certainly will NOT help the sales from certain pockets of the moviegoing public AD. The demographic this franchise could have been targeting is already jaded by PG-13 styled action/comedy and up. Hate to say it, but G and PG rated films suggest "wholesome entertainment" and for some people it means a loss of adult cool factor and more kiddie-themed material. Sad, but true.

In my humble opinion, Fox & Co. are getting really ballsy with this running time and rating. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. FF2 will be the very first PG-rated CBM to be released since the rebirth in 2000 (with Bryan Singer's PG-13 X-Men).

Has anyone seen how many screens the movie will debut on? That should give us a good idea what the opening BO will be

The rating might help it; a lot of the shiity word of mouth from the first was from the tgeenage audience.

92 minutes runtime, PG rating, excellent marketing...Fox is securing a huge opening weekend. They know there is too much competition and they know it will drop hard after the opening weekend. I think there is a shot at 200 million domestically and 400+ worldwide (domestic + internationally). I hope that it makes enough so that maybe when the inevitable third film gets made they will actually give Tim Story final cut and we can finally have an epic 2 hour F4 film in theaters.

That is what I was thinking. If a lot of people see this film and it makes over 200mil, they might actually let Tim do what he wants with a bigger budget and longer time.

this is gonna get about 170 million tops...

It depends on how much it opens with. I think Fox is shooting for an 80 million opening and with all the kid friendly aspects of the film I think it can manage a 2.5 multiplier, but I also think a 2.5 multiplier is the max for this film...so anything less than an 80 million opening would yield a not so great total for Fox.

Or Fox would cut the running time on FF 3 down to 85 minutes and make it G rated.

If you don't want a rushed Fantastic Four 3 with too much in one film then Fox needs to extend the contracts to beyond 3 films...like now.

^ Yeah this entire thread of 166 posts is a big joke on you. ;) This is a family action/comedy film not X-Men. If you want X-Men you can rent it at a video store near you. People forget that.

Transformers won't ever get that high neither considering Harry Potter 5 is just going to be one week away. Fantastic Four will great legs because it doesn't have a movie that is even close to its standards. Evan Almighty will be a bomb!

I am excited for Fantastic Four, but it won't beat Transformers. That's a guaranteed promise there.

And with Evan Almighty, when you say it will be a bomb, do you mean it'll suck or it'll be good? Bruce Almighty did $240mil domestic, and Steve Carell is on a role now with the popularity of the Office and 40 year old rental/DVD sales. Evan Almighty won't put a big dent into Fantastic Four, but it'll be a B.O. success.

Evan's gonna open up good but it's gonna get buried by all the competition. Should have been a XMAS or Holiday release IMO>

The same could be said for F4-2, although I think both will do well.

Umm, where did I say I wanted X-Men? Is a movie that isn't targeted at kids always X-Men?

This doesn't bode well for surpassing the lackluster first movie at all.

Yes, you're completely right. Either that or they should have waited until late August, after all the big releases have slowed down to trickles.

It's the most expensive comedy ever made, and it won't make back its production budget. Have you seen the trailer? It looks ******ed.

That was my concern as well actually, I know a lot of people who won't watch movies if they are PG. They just don't think there will be any substance there OR decent action.

The rating is the least of concerns, there are plenty of PG films that have action...it's the runtime that is the problem when it comes to substance.

Like what? And movies that came out before PG-13 was introduced don't count (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.)

There hasn't been a good PG action movie since PG-13 didn't exist.
