^ Really? I thought Harry Potter was good, National Treasure, Rocky Balboa, and many more. What rating was Narnia?

National Treasure -- Not an action movie, but I like that one.

Harry Potter -- There's no action in the first three movies. I like the movies, but it's kiddie fare.

Rocky Balboa -- Haven't seen it, so I can't comment.

Narnia -- This movie absolutely sucked (if I wanted to see four kids cry for two hours I'd babysit or something) but the action (while it lasted) was actually pretty cool, so I'll give you this one.

The first 3 Harry Potter films were great and where PG, like AD said, NT was great and so was Rocky Balboa. Narnia was PG and was an amazing movie which had dark elements in it like the HP films.

So really, the rating is fine...at least its not a G rating. It's the freakin' runtime that doesn't make sense...it's basically Shrek 3 length...which is sad. But Fox is all about $$$, so it really comes as to no surprise when these things surface.

The first three HP movies weren't action movies. They were fantasy/family movies.

But there was action and dark elements in the HP movies and I remember a lot of people I knew kept saying it should have been PG-13 because they were too dark for young kids.

Don't get me wrong here people... It's not the end of the world, but I don't see how anyone can spin a PG rating into a positive...

I'm much more upset about Live Free or Die Hard being PG-13. How can you even die in a hard manner in a PG-13 movie? There's no goddamn blood.

You have to remember Fox is the one producing these films and all they want is money, they don't care about quality or the fans.

^ The ratings change in these films are to get more money...faster. The problem isn't Fox. The problem is what Fox is reacting too. The competition is ridiculous and this is becoming a major problem that hasn't really been a big deal till this year. 2008 is much worse with major films all crammed together. The studios need to bring in the widest audiences...and fast. The only exceptions are big R rated franchises opening up outside the Summer Movie season like 300, or during the Holidays. I think we'll start to see more films spread out starting in 2009/2010 over the early winter and late fall. I think if FF2 had opened up during the Holidays it might even be bigger. Only thing is they won't make as much money on DVD's and toys over the long cycle. That's why major superhero franchises like to open up earlier in the year.

91M opening weekend, 175M domestically and 420M worldwide...mainly do because of THE SILVER SURFER.

i think the total is going to be more than that.

91 million opening and a less than 2 multiplier? No way is that happening. It will at least have a 2.2 multiplier with that opening and that would give it 200 million domestically. 420 million worldwide is probably a good number for the worldwide take.

haha NO WAY it gets 80 million opening weekend.

I agree. It'll do better than the original's opening weekend ($56 mil), but no $24 mil better. My guess is between $65-70 million opening weekend.

Just saw on Mojo, FF 2 is set as of todat at 3,800 + theaters. FF opened at 3,602, next week went to 3,619, and that was it's highest.

Yea way. What's going to get in it's way ? Oceans 13 ? Please. It will have clear sailing till Transformers opens. By that time it should have around 170. That's 3 solid weeks. No Wedding Crashers, and CATCF this time around. :woot: It got sandwiched, and still only had a 59.4 % drop 2nd weekend. Go to ANCI, the'll buy what your selling over there. I waited to cast my vote. Just made it. More than 220. The 8 of us who believe will just have to stick togeather. The Surfer will catch fire once the kids see him, and if it is rated PG, that will be a big bunus.

You have got to believe that by seeing that number at boxoffice mojo the true theater count will be close to 4000. I don't remember what the first movie adveraged but I got my fingers cross that its at least $20,000 which would translate to an $80 million dollar opening.

It has to face Evan Almighty, Ratatouille and Live Free or Die Hard before Transformers opens.

Evan Almighty will likely be a disappointment in terms of return on its budget (they've spent way too much on it), but should still sell a lot of tickets nonetheless.

Ratatouille has the capacity to be really big and will provide a lot of competition for the family audience. Live Free or Die Hard should be reasonably big and will split the focus of Fox's marketing team (bit of a head scratcher as to why Fox scheduled their two big summer movies so close together).

What are the other box office websites predicting? Any links gents?

Opening weekend it averaged $ 15,563 / theater. $ 20,000 X 4,000 theaters would be $ 80 million. $ 20 grand per theater, over 3 days, $ 6,667 per day. Piece of cake.

FF 1 averaged $ 15,563 on its opening weekend.

You'll probably have to wait till early next week for some predictions, although I did see one early, early prediction which has it at 70 million.

70 million is the low it'll make. 80-85 probably the high. If it touches 100 I'd be completely shocked...in a good way.

Don't kid yourself, son.

The first Oceans film made over 100 Million more than the first Fantastic 4 film did and Ocean's 11 wasn't even released in the summer, that's not even bringing up the critical acclaim of 11. The second Oceans(12) made over 30 Million more than F4 and it too wasn't released during the summer.

To put it nicely, Oceans has more star power than any Tim Story film will ever have, and that's including Alba.:cwink:
