Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

Carp Man,

You are a statistical machine. They need to move you into this line of work for the studios.

Thanks. Facts, figures, and numbers are my specility. I'm a human calculator when it comes to numbers. It's a gift, what can I say. :woot: Made a good bit of money doing peoples taxes on the side over the years. 32 years as a manager for Wal-Mart did not hurt either. 34 years of marriage, 5 kids, and 3 grandchildren. Now I've gone back to school for computers, and computer networks. 18 weeks till I graduate. So noone feel sorry for me. Life's great.

He already works for Marvel and Fox, they just don't pay him.......:cwink:

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but this is third'd. It's a little scary to see so much hate towards one film just because it did better than this movie.

Nah. That's not the problem. When they jumped in the 4th of July weekend spot that FF 2 had, that did it.

Well i hate to say it carpy but you really need to cool it with all the hate on TF's. its probably one of the best movies of the summer and even of the year so far. I think your jealousy is turning you green with envy.

I've seen TF's twice and i'll see it again this sat.

BTW my theater has stopped playing FF2 after just about a little under a month.

And I've seen FF 2 11 times. When it comes to the 50 cent movie theater, I'll see it a bunch more time, so 82.50 of that domestic is mine. Best movie of the summer ? I think SM 3 holds that honor, and FF 2 a close 2nd. Are you one of those who said TF's was going to be the box office winner of the year, and make over 300 domestic ?

Yes damn them for being competitive:dry:,you were also moaning that WB put Potter one week after FF2 as well,i guess everyone should move out the way so FF2 can have a free run:huh:

I never take part of those threads. I might go inti them but i never say oh its gonna do this and that. I saw it 10 times FF2.

and alot of people hated Sm3. and yes i said best movie of the summer.

my top 5 movies of the year in no order would have to be Knocked Up,FF2,Disturbia,Live Free Or Die Hard and TF's. with POTC3 and SM3 right behind in the 6 and 7 spots.

In a perfect world, yes, but since we live nowhere near perfect, we must suffer the injustices of life. It's all good. FF 2 was a hell of a good movie, and in the end that's the bottom line.

If you think of it. TF's should be thanking TF's. if it came out on the 4th it would have gotten killed my TF's and HP.

Apparently not for you as you hold 5 year old level grudges against business:dry:

Well on that note I must say good night. 6:30 comes early. School tomorrow. 17 weeks to go after tomorrow. I may even send you a graduation picture. Exit, stage right. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I'm a cartoon fan also.

Oh hell yeah..........my god........a woman that could barely put food on the table not many years ago........unbelievable....
I read somewhere that she was pretty much homeless at one point, and would write ideas about H.P. on napkins or whatever she could find.

EDIT: (Not aimed at you Albafan.)
About the T.F. debate in here. I dont think it matters one way or the other now if H.P. is out or not.
T.F. is already a success, and looks like it will easily pass 200 mill dom. (I really need to go see it.)

FF2 would have never done what TFM did.....with the July 4th spot. You know that. It would have maybe maxed out at about 170 million.

Wednesday estimates from SBD:

1. Harry Potter 5 - $ 44.755 mil (biggest Wednesday ever)
2. Transformers - $ 6.995 mil ($ 180.45 mil)
3. Ratatouille - $ 3.94 mil ($ 121.662 mil)
4. Die Hard 4 - $ 1.745 mil ($ 90.375 mil)
5. License to Wed - $ 1.27 mil ($ 21.863 mil)
6. Evan Almighty - $ 1.07 mil ($ 82.162 mil)
7. 1408 - $ 0.79 mil ($ 56.478 mil)
8. Knocked Up - $ 0.615 mil ($ 134.077 mil)
9. Sicko - $ 0.445 mil ($ 12.818 mil)
10. FF 2 - $ 0.445 mil ($ 125.271 mil)

70% drop for Transformers, granted I don't think the weekend drop will be that bad, but it looks like we're gonna have another 60% drop for a blockbuster film this weekend.

How is the rest of July looking? Nothing else big except for Simpsons, right?

I Now Pronounce You Larry and Chuck and Hairspray are out on July 20th. Larry and Chuck should open to around $ 40 mil or so, as most Sandler comedies do.

I'm not really aware of much. The only big films I can think of yet to open this summer are Bourne Ultimatum and that graphic novel movie with Robert DeNiro and Claire Danes.

Simpons will be a success considering it cost next to nothing to produce, and will probably end up with 75 mill or so domestically. I can't find any specific information on the production budget, but I'd guess 10-15 mill tops.

The big releases for the rest of the summer:

July 20 - Hairspray; I Now Pronounce You Larry and Chuck

July 27 - The Simpsons Movie

August 3 - The Bourne Ultimatum; Underdog

August 10 - Rush Hour 3; Stardust

August 17 - The Invasion

PG 13 comedies are not doing too well these days.......Hairspray I think will do about as well as Dreamgirls.....which was pretty much a flop....but I suck at this speculation stuff....so if I'm wrong.....throw it at me....I can take it.

Whoa....... the giant robots took a dive when the boy wizard showed up. Have to admit Carp was right. I think that is because you have a wider audience appeal with "Harry Potter" than with "Transformers" ... more females and a lot more adults in the mix.

Potter rules!

Can't wait to see OOTP!!!

Except I can't see it until Tuesday :csad:

I'm not surprised at all with what HP has done.....OMG....that is all many of my students can talk about.....if they finish up their work early I allow them to read......and what do they pull out more often than anyother book?

ya guessed it......they have been talking this movie since the first day of school.....LAST YEAR....
