Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

F4 is still on the same amount of screens around me as TF, and HP....all have 2 screens each.....haven't checked any further out than that....

FF lost half its screens this weekend.

That possibility of picking up the 3 million it will need after this weekend is looking like slim unless the theater loss stands pat for a week or two.

Looks like Fox did nothing to halt the slide with the theater owners as WB probably did with SR.

Oh well its their money.

Very true, it almost seems like the studio wants to kill the franchise.

150 million dollar budget........it made that back in about 5 days.

How is not a success? How did it not live up to the BO hype?

Carp....some battles are best left as is. This is one you can't win.

The film is a success, it's also packed with just plain silly rediculous crap. Harry Potter is the first film this summer to successfully combine an epic plot with humor, without resorting to sillyness.

People complain that FF was written for a juvenile audience, but it doesn't hold a candle to Transformers in that department.

Really? Transformers is sillier than FF? I then will take your word on that and opt out of seeing Transformers.

Right now FF 2 is gone at the local multiplex here. Movie theaters are committed for a certain # of weeks for a movie. After that it is up to the chain how long they run after the commitment is up. If it's doing well it stays, if it's not, they use those screens for a more profitable movie. It's a matter of economics.

Both could be considered silly, but both were freakin' awesome. lol. But neither are perfect either.

Pshhhhhhh don't listen to him. Unless you were joking.

If he has seen it, and that's his opinion, then it is his opinion. Just like the idiot critics. I haven't seen it, but I have read about it on moviespoiler, and it seems silly as hell, but as with FF, some like silliness. Nothing is sillier than POTC, any movie, yet they do great. By the way, they have HP 5 up at www.themoviespoiler.com if anyones interested. Wow. Awsome. I can see where the next one is going allready.

No,.....I was serious.....I'm not interested to begin with but I'll trust his opinion in case I get really bored some day.

Wait for the DVD. 3 bucks, or whatever the cost to rent, or if you have Netflix you can get it for your subscription fee. I have no interest to see it in the theater, or on DVD. When it comes to cable I may watch it.

Well, if you ever do watch it, expect a paper thin story but lots and lots of awesome robot action and destruction.

I went to see Transformers so that I would have an actual intelligent opinion about it.......its not a movie that is one I would normally go to see, but I didn't fall asleep, and the audience really enjoyed it.

Bottom line is that Tim Story and Fox FAILED miserably.
For all the talk of not being able to do 30 feet giants walking through cities, the Transformers BLEW IT AWAY!
both in BO as well as in action, directing, acting, and overall quality.
Transformers is what the FF could and SHOULD have been.
It made more money its first FIVE DAYS than FF has made so far.

it's time to jump off that wagon.

by wagon I mean the Tim Story/Fox wagon, not the FF wagon.

All I can tell you is that this was one of the most kickass movies I've seen. period.
it was awesome, and the audiences seem to fee the same way.
here is not the best place to come and get a fair opinion of the movie.
I am much more a FF fan than a transformers fan,..but honestly T blew it away.
IN fact, other than 300, I give Transformers "best action pic of the summer" award./
Yes that is above my beloved Spider-man movies.
it's worth seeing in the theatres.

That's bull, we have people here that have stated they loved it, hated it, didn't like it too much, thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread......so that statement is full of bull......:o

The only one that would not give a "fair" assessment of this movie is carpy because he will not see in the theatre, as with all movies, there all kinds of opinions, because people didn't enjoy as much as you did doesn't mean their opinion is not fair opinion.....

so again, "bull hockey" to your statement.....

Transformers was good, so was FF2, so was Spider-Man, and nearly every other film this season that I wanted to see. Overall, HP 5 takes the crown for me, as those final battles were awesome...almost jedi-ish like...lol. FF2 wasn't anywhere near a failure, but it was a disappointment, simply because the movie looked to ddeliver much strogner results, over the last film, but that Surfer Doom plot device killed it...The film did well enough for Story and Fox to get a Right one last time...REALLY right. I still believe, because FF2 was a much better film than FF, so I believe FF3 can be so much more.

BTW, I watched BB on HD-DVD a couple of nights ago, and it was really good...I really hope Nolan can salvage the Joker, cause that sneak look...yuck!

No way will it be below 50%, I don't see huge moves for Transformers on Saturday, I think it will probably end up in the 32-33 million range, meaning an above 50% drop, although better than I predicted seeing how poorly it did durring the week.

As far as FF, now I'm not sure it will make 130 million domestically. It's really and enigma, on why it did that poorly.
If you really think it's a mystery then you don't get it at all.

I've yet to see T.F. so I can't speak on it, but its B.O. is screaming that the public likes it.

I'm confused, does talking about how bad of a drop Transformers had, or how badly Harry Potter apparently opened in comparison to Transformers have something to do with Fantastic Four?

Does this somehow make Rise of the Silver Surfer's disappointing BO take better?

What does any of it have to do with the box office of this movie?

I guess they´re trying to change the subject... Speaking objectively, a likely scenario is that things are gonna be pretty quiet on the FF franchise for a while, then eventually Marvel Studios may take the rights back and restart the franchise from scratch with their own fund... Now, for starters, let´s get a REAL filmmaker this time, screenwriters who treat the material as an epic sci-fi adventure with drama and humor instead of a sitcom with FX and, can I suggest yet again Elizabeth Banks for Sue Storm?

A likely scenario will be that they'll wait for the DVD sales to start working on a new one, which they will certainly do as these movies are all profitable, no matter how many pages of message boards stupid fanboys can fill with their analysis of the box office.
And Elizabeth Banks already lost the role to Jessica once (unfortunately).

So what, Hulk was profitable too, and look how long it took for a sequel to happen. DD was profitable and I´m not hearing anything about a sequel. Given the lukewarm reception the movie received, I wouldn´t put up hope too high for DVD sales. And you know what, Ed Norton was my first choice for Bruce Banner for the first Hulk movie and now he´s got the part.

Yes but in those cases the studios had to share their profits with Lee and Shamus and Affleck, who reportedly wasn't happy with the final result and didn't want to do another one.
I don't think any of the players of F4 get a share of the profits.

Saturday numbers from SBD:

1. HP 5 - $ 28.542 mil
2. TF - $ 14.357 mil
