Box Office Mojo is ruined!

You just gotta love it when a "spokesperson" tries to spin things.

While a spokesperson from the company said “these updates were made in response to customer feedback and usage patterns, which will continue to inform future feature launches,”

"in reponse to customer feedback" Really, which so called customers wanted this mess. :whatever:

Quite obvious lies. The old layout was where BOM had the edge over their competition. It’s the other sites which would have got feedback saying please incorporate these features that BOM has and this clear style of presentation. I’ve gone from daily use to no use lol.

For at least some movies, budget is located under “title summary.” Speculating: if the budget is unknown, rather than list it as “N/A” (as in the old days) they omit the field entirely.
Yeah just checked the older movies, the production budget is still there.

I hope Box Office Mojo would listen to the feedback and at least recover things from the old site. Its so weird they have the link for the international box office section at the top of the page but removed the pages for yearly worldwide box office gross.

Then they kept the showdowns, while the franchise/studio pages are only accessible for IMDb pro members.

I'm not even going to bother with the new site. I will wait until some competitor opens up. It might be a while, but it is almost certainly a matter of when, not if.

They must have noticed a downturn in traffic already.

Honestly I may have to start going to Dark Horizons again. That shows you how old my ass is.

I don't go there often but I understand the outrage because of the paywall. The site did need a clean up in terms of design, but the information was important for people to access.

I'm sure there has been but did something get put out?
Not that I know of. I was just making a general comment in that I expect traffic to drop a lot. Hopefully enough for them to realise they've made a mistake.

Looks like the worldwide charts are back at BOM.
I see a (new?) pulldown menu for worldwide. But I get an "error" when I try to load different years. Maybe it's a work in progress. Or maybe it's just my old browser.

i just noticed that they've changed the yearly rankings when I was checking which spot Frozen got in 2013 and I was surprised its now at #6. American Sniper is no longer the highest grossing in 2014 domestically, as most of its earnings are now counted in 2015 yearly ranking.

I don't really disagree with this but they could have implemented this rule/counting a long time ago and now suddenly I feel like I'm reading the yearly rankings in a different reality.

They have two different options now:

In-year releases are what movies released a specific year has made in total. Calendar grosses are only the gross movies made that year.

So having given this time to bed in, yes boxofficemojo is terrible now. A site I used to visit everyday I will rarely visit again.

Now they really messed up things. They've put the weekly charts in both the weekend and weekly lists. And not only for 2020, it's the same for every year it seems.

Oh, and some weekend charts (when you actually find them) are messed up. Here's an example:

I miss the Studio, Franchise totals unless that’s for Pro members.
