Boy to stand trial for killing his principal

I was just talking to my wife about this, and apparently my Grandmother was the principals 1st and 2nd grade teacher.

Well, the article probably just gave the highest/most sensational charge, I'm sure there are other charges. I was on a jury once and as I was listening to the details of the case I remembered reading about it in the paper, the article just said he'd be tried for first-degree murder, but in the actual case, the jury had "options" of what crime was committed, like manslaughter, second degree murder, etc..., in the end we convicted him of first degree murder because clearly it was.

The jury had a choice of what charges to convict him of???? hmm....

Usually you have the trial for whatever charges the district attorney decided to bring against the person, they go to trial for those charges, the jury says guilty or not, if guilty the jury then hears from other parties, and a choice of sentences is given and they go from there.
