Animation Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn

Wow, I'm in. Hopefully it's still 2D animation. What a great idea for what could be a really great movie. Bird is always missed even when he's between films.

FINALLY. I was just wondering the other day, "what's Brad Bird up to, rn?" And Google came up empty aside from a couple of old projects I'd assume are stuck in development hell, so I got concerned, lol.

Before some people get too excited...

John Lasseter, David Ellison and Dana Goldberg will produce for Skydance Animation. Ray Gunn will be Bird’s first animated film since 2018’s Incredibles 2, Pixar’s highest-grossing film of all time. Bird reunites with former Pixar head Lasseter and joins a growing roster of animation talent at Skydance.

Yes, but he’s also made the work to change in the past years. It’s not a Harvey Weinstein or Scott Rudin scenario here where there’s no coming back from those heinous actions.

Honest question, why wouldn’t people still work with him if he changed the way he interacted? Should he nor people ever work with him again over his past inappropriateness even if he’s made strides to correct it? I’m really curious about this in terms of famous people. Can you ever come back and are there levels depending the situation?

People feel that almost immediately after getting fired for that behavior, getting hired into a similar position, with similar power over people, is not enough consequences for his behavior. Especially when he was brought on over the objection of your female staff. Add in that Skydance now has even more incentive than Disney to cover up his actions, lets just say trust has not been re-established.

Was hoping Brad Bird would get to make his dream project Ray Gunn. Guess that's not coming anytime soon, but maybe the success of this might finally get it made.

Now we have the always reliable Drew Taylor (via The Wrap) giving us a major update on the film. It turns out that Bird “is in the middle” of making “Ray Gunn,” which is now CG and intended for release on Netflix in 2026.
