Brave and the Bold Casting Thread

For a virtual unknown he’s definitely my favorite for it. He has the height, the voice and he just looks like a guy you wouldn’t want to mess with.

I think that’s my problem with a lot of suggestions here like Hoult or Claflin. They don’t seem tough at all and I don’t think they’d look tough with the suit on either.

Gosling for as handsome as he is, can come across suitably tough in roles like Drive and Blade Runner. Same with Gyllenhaal. The guy playing Batman has to have some grit to him.

Batman/Bruce Wayne - Jake Gyllenhaal

Jason Todd/Red Hood - Paul Mescal

I love that cast, but I don’t know if Dylan O Brien and Jake Gyllenhaal would work together. Dylan played an unflattering fictional version of Jake Gyllenhaal in Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” music video.

After watching The Killer I have to once again repeat: It's such a shame Michael Fassbender never played Batman. He'd have been great. I'd still "he still could" but I think chances of that are really low.

He probably has too much baggage in his past for any big franchise role, tbh. I feel like he's been quietly and justifiably grey listed because of it. Amazing actor though, probably also the best James Bond that never was.

It also has to do with him pursuing his racing career but yeah it's probably for the best he never plays Batman but goddamn if he isn't one of the best actors of his generation and probably the best one with a "leading man" look that you don't really see anymore. He has a presence that no other actor I can think of currently has, maybe Gyllenhaal comes close but there's something so old school about Fassbender.

Totally. His trilogy of collaborations with Steven McQueen are one of the greatest acting accomplishments of his generation of performers.

Not that I think he ever really stood a chance but it's nice to know we can cross off Hoult definitively for this.

Watched The Killer today and really wouldn't mind Fassbender, I doubt it'd happen for a few reasons but after the Hoult-Luthor casting it popped up in my head again.

Lee Pace really is a great choice but it seems slightly unattainable, not sure that Pace would wanna do it, but also not sure anyone would ask him over someone more "obvious" like Gyllenhaal, which I don't want.

I think Joel Edgerton is an exciting choice for this.

I don't know why Lee wouldn't want to do it. He's always stated he feels comfortable in genre projects with big fandoms and likes being in them, not to mention it's a great character in line with the type of character he likes in general. Even the prospect of a 10 year plan is unlikely to be a negative for him as, on interviews, he's stated he really likes to explore characters in depth and as much and as long as humanly possible; which is why he's felt comfortable doing TV as well. Also it's just a great opportunity for his career in general, which has been kinda stagnant since 2015. Even if the movie did bad I can't really see any way in which it'd do him harm and if the movie's great he'll just become a major star.

As for the "not sure anyone would ask him" I'd say the same if it was anyone in charge but James Gunn. The fact that it's James makes me confident it'll at least cross his mind since they worked together before and Gunn favors people he's worked with a lot.

On another note: The fact that Gyllenhaal was too expensive for even Marvel in regards to Fantastic Four kinda makes me raise an eyebrow whether they'd actually want him. If Marvel couldn't afford him, can the DCU really do it? Especially with how expansive their plans are and how they'd want him in multiple forms of media and even potentially appearing in shows? Maybe he'd be willing to lower his salary but I don't know. Anything can change from now until the script is actually done but right now I really think they won't get a big star, they might not even want it for the cost alone.

The Fantastic Four rumor doesn't make any sense. He's already a character in the MCU.

Another actor for your list

Tom Hughes: 38 yrs old, 6'1

His general vibe and demeanor is reminiscent of Pattinson, but whatever.

Joe Manganiello might have a decent chance, he definitely has the right look. Not a huge fan of him as an actor from what I’ve seen though

He’s a very likeable actor especially in a comedic context - in the pre DCU days I was hoping he’d pop up in Peacemaker or another comedic Gunn project for that reason - but he’d be fundamentally miscast as Batman. Completely wrong energy, nothing dark or aristocratic about him.

I really don't like his face for it (He's 38 but still somehow seems too boyish) but just added him. This generation of 30 something actors is mindblowing in terms of how underwhelming it is.

I was gonna mention Emmett Scanlan, who's in his mid-forties and is apparently kinda tight w/ Gunn, but he's similarly underwhelming. You might as well add him to the list too. lol

If he goes for someone in their 40s I tend to think he'll go for a bigger caliber of actor, but I actually wouldn't be surprised if Scanlan lands up as Lombard or something.

That guy has played some of the greatest DC characters (Spectre and Lobo) and didn’t do a good job as either of them

Would kill to know which fancasts he thinks are terrible. (Cough cough Tom Bateman cough cough)

I barely believe it isn't a factor in his decision making given his casting so far feels purely like he's reading off popular fan casts :funny:.

I both feel this way but also think that he'd have arrived at Corenswet, Brosnahan and Gisondo on his own. Brosnahan wasn't even a popular fancast outside these forums I think, I kept seeing other names suggested instead of her on social media. Unless of course he stalks here (which is a gigantic possibility) And Gisondo I think I saw suggested but not as much as other names.
