I am going back and buying issues of Batman from 1980 to around 1986. My current collection starts around 1987 and I wanted to read some of the great stories in the 80;s I have heard so much about.

Do the Brave and the Bold titles in the 70's and 80's have any effect on continuity? Are the B&B books any good?

I only ask becasue a dude at my local shop is selling his entire VF/NM run of B&B from January 1980 to the final issue of #200 and he only wants $2.50-$3.50 each for them. I have never bought a price guide so I am not sure if this is a good deal or not but it seems like it is.

That seems like a reasonable price, there aren't that many "hot" issues but the majority of them are self contained and fun to read hearkening back to the detective aspect of Batman, and Jim Aparo's was at his prime on B&B.

I'm also enjoying the DC Showcase volumes that make the art look better in b&w but I still scrounge the dollar bins to fill in gaps.

Since these stories were set before Pre-Crisis I think the entire run is ignored by current writers.

Continuity of today? No.
Continuity of back then? Not really, but that's true for all titles. Especially the Bob Haney era doesn't really fit anywhere.

The Brave & The Bold #94 from 1971 or something by Haney, "The Rebels In The Street" is one of my favorite comic book stories. The content he managed to put into 20-something pages is impressive. Let's see if any modern writer could do the same :o

That's what I miss from comics today in which a 20 page story back then would consist today of dragging it to 6 issues full of splash pages.
