A similar thing happened in Romania. A young girl got raped by a relative and she came to britain for an abortion because they are illegal in romania or something.

I can't understand blind devotion to any religion where you value some scripture or interpretationint of that religion more than the lives of fellow human beings

The whole point is that we do care about fellow human beings from conception to death. As soon as conception occurs there is human life and there is value. This archbishop is taking this too far given the doctor's opinions but I would bet that he didn't know the doctor's prognosis for the family

While I agree with you, others wouldn't because they believe life begins at conception. Some people just take things too far, like that couple who killed their newborn by putting it on a vegan diet or those people who refuse to take their kids to hospitals because they think god will heal them. Sometimes belief overrides peoples common sense.

You misunderstand me. Life does begin at conception. Technically that little ball of cells is alive, and it is technically human. My point is that that shouldn't matter. Even though it's two lives vs. one, the unborn are expendable since they have yet to be born. They aren't people yet.

The fact that she was pregnant with twins was only discovered after she was taken to hospital in Pernambuco complaining of stomach pains.

Her stepfather was arrested last week, allegedly as he tried to escape to another region of the country.

He is also suspected of abusing the girl's physically handicapped older sister who is now 14.

I've seen ages of 9, 6, 5 and 4 mentioned in regards to being impregnated and all I can do is shake my head.

The Church sees abortion as murdering a human being. Fair enough, but why don't the Catholic Church excommunicate every murderer as well as people who have abortions? Are they not murderers of equal footing in Catholicism's eyes? Why does your average murderer get an opportunity to "repent" whereas a young girl is damned to "hell" through no fault of her own?

I'm not saying they're true, but to ASSUME they're not and then accuse everyone who believes in them of idiocy... Well, that makes you the idiot, as well as close-minded.

It IS a baby- just not completely developed into what we look like now. We know fetuses don't feel physical pain until the third trimester, but I'm pretty sure we don't know whether or not they form thoughts. And, on top of that, they are living AT THE INSTANT of conception. They have heartbeats pretty early on during development- do you not consider living things with heartbeats to be human?

Think of it this way... Say your abortion fails, or the girl you got pregnant backed out... How do you tell your child, "Well, we tried to abort you!"?

Just because you've "broken free from the 'norm'" doesn't mean your eyes are open. Your eyes are just as closed as the religious devouts' who stress belief in their god(s) and their god(s) only, and if not, "you will suffer in the afterlife". I had no idea either... my areas of interest/expertise don't lie in biology.
