I really don't have a problem with that because Osama was not a real Muslim.
Then why give him a "burial". You can't have it both ways. Call him not a Muslim and go all PC not to inflame people. I call ******** on this cognitive dissonance.

I just don't get the compassion for Bin Laden...

People?

Who?

All I've seen is Zack...

We gave him a bit of a burial to try to tide at least a tiny bit of anti-american sentiment, which would endanger lives. I really don't think Obama was concerned about it due to wanting to honor his religion.

...and how exactly do you figure that?

It's just my belief, they probably knew from intel that it wasn't, thats why they went in. Do you think they'd risk a having a massive fire fight in a foreign country?

I think there were others earlier in the thread(s). Either way, he's not the only one, I've seen people in the news *****ing about that. The point is that no matter how they disposed of him people would be complaining.

But he is not a Muslim, you said it. So it shouldn't matter.

Yes, and they did. Hell, Obama said he would risk that during the 2008 debates.

Well yeah, because that is what people do....lol

It shouldn't, but we all know there are people that consider him to be one, people who might get at least just a little more pissed if we didn't make any sort of attempt to get rid of him tastefully, which could lead to lost lives. It's a decent compromise. The extremes would be parading his body around on a tour, or giving him a totally honorable burial. We did neither, which is a great decision.

...and yet they were only 60-80 percent sure that Bin Laden was even in the building. Something tells me they didn't know a whole lot and put their collective butts on the line hoping it paid off.

I'm not giving compassion specifically to Bin Laden. Americans just get confused because they only have limited US media influencing them. I'm explaining that it will piss off some Muslims because correct tradition was not followed. However I do find it interesting that when 1400 Palestinians are killed in Gaza by Israeli's including 600 children, nobody in the US cares. 911 didn't shock all Muslims, that's because this one day is what they have experienced for years.

I don't want to sound rude but I don't really believe anything your government says right now. I do believe they had some great intel an they acted on it though.

I have no argument with that, but I don't think that means we can't feel what we feel about the Osama situation. Try telling someone whose wife got hit by a car that he shouldn't feel emotional because thousands of people have died in car accidents in the past.

You both should probably look around a little harder at the 'limited media influenced' americans you're having this conversation with. We're a lot less 'limited' than you think.

Well there you go, you just believed something our government said.

Look, I don't believe half the stuff our government says either, but I don't go the other way and jump on ridiculous conspiracy theories at every second either.

And apparently you live somewhere where you get "all the world's news?"

Look I understand where you are coming from as far as "US news" but some of us, go far beyond that when building our opinions....

I can only speak for myself...so I will say this, and leave it at this...

When I teach "apartheid" I do not just teach about South Africa, I include the Palestinians in this as well (this is just ONE example)....so please pull back alittle on your generalizations of...."nobody in the US cares...". That possibly is coming from your limited news media?????

I did not want to see him go to trial. I wanted him dead and I'm glad it happened. But if he posed no immediate threat, and was executed, that feels wrong to me. I would have at least put an empty gun in his hand :o
I agree that regardless of whether people feel killing him was right or wrong, the possibility of him being captured and executed doesn't seem right.

Kel, when I started posting in this politics forum about a week or so ago, I totally thought you were a *****e bag, I just want to formally apologize for my thoughts, even though I didn't say it out loud. You're not so bad.

I'm not going after the minority of informed Americans, or politically concious Americans such as yourself. Usually I would stay away from generalizing, but when it comes to Middle Eastern conflicts, and what has happened to Palestinians... Generally Americans (implying majority here) are clueless.

:huh::huh:

thanks...

Yeah no, I know that sounded weird, when I first jumped into the politics forum I saw a bunch of posts that made me think you were a jerk with poor diction, but that hasn't been the case since. Maybe you were drunk, I dunno. Either way, that's about as nice as I can be...

Given that everyone seemed to agree with you on your point regarding the Palestinians (we just disagree that we can't feel emotionally positive on the Osama thing despite that), indicates that you were wrong about that.
