Fantasy Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to return for new ‘Mummy’ film

I'm waiting for Glen Powell as reboot Indy (or David). :argh:

I'm thinking this is Universal's untitled Christmas movie for December 22, 2027. If so, it would be competing with Secret Wars and Lord of the Rings.

Honestly, fond as I am of the first two movies, it might be Radio Silence that has me the most excited about this.

It’ll be interesting to see them take on something with more of an adventure tone.

While all their flicks are horror based, they have very much delivered on the hero's journey more then once. And we know they have a handle on comedy.

I have a lot of love for The Mummy and to some extent the sequel (even I can't stand that kid). I can still remember being home sick from school as an 8-9 year old with a fever and my dad (who stayed home) rented The Mummy on VHS and we watched it during the day. One of those great "don't tell the other parent, its our little shared secret" moments as a kid. (I'm sure my mom would have objected and said I should have stayed in bed all day)

I'd be very excited for this on paper but so much time has passed I don't know if that magic can be recaptured. But those movies really had a charm and humor to them. Are they bringing back good old Arnold Vosloo as well?

The mummy's in this series often explode. Sure, in dust, but they explode. You know they are prepping to cover their actors in something in this movie.

They way you describe it sounds like some internet fetish. :o

Cool! Rachel is so mother, can’t wait for her return.

I wonder if they’ll invite the scorpion king back?

I never saw the 3rd movie, but the first was great and the sequel while infamous for some not great reasons, was enjoyable.

So with Fraser AND Weisz back for this I am all in. Have only seen Abigail from Radio Silence, but really liked that movie.

Now why would you put something like that out into the universe? :weeping:

The Rock needs to keep pretending to be a real actor and let Matt and Tyler make the movie they want to make.

This is one of the rare cases where I'm actually happy that they're making yet ANOTHER sequel, only this time I think the franchise deserved a new chapter with Rachel Weisz after the horrible third movie. And also because Brendan Fraser deserves a proper comeback. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett behind the camera is just cherry on top.

It's also nice getting other big action spectacle movies that aren't superhero or Star Wars related. Plus getting Brendan Fraser as a lead again would be exciting!

To their credit they've tried with Uncharted and that Fountain of Youth thing but they just can't capture the vibe. It's all too glossy, too CGi'ed. There's a roughness... maybe even 'cheapness' to the classic adventure movie that it's only achieved with sets and real locations.

For all you making fun of Fraser's current shape, while i don't think he will ever get back to 2000 Fraser, he'll put in the effort over the next few months to get in respectable shape. The guy is going to be 57 and has done so much over the past 5 years to get back to where he is now.

He's already in decent shape now. This is from a week ago:
