You are not going to believe this but right from the horses mouth! Brendon Fraser confirms he was JJ Abraham's Superman! Even tried on the suit and nailed a screen test!! Go to Comics2film and see the clip for yourself!

As much as we love reporting on the superhero films that are in development, we go nearly as crazy as the ones that never will be. For instance, how would you have liked A “Superman” flick directed by Brett Ratner and starring…wait for it…Brendan Fraser.
When I spoke with Fraser over the weekend at the NY Comic Con, he revealed all. “I wore the suit,” he admitted about his screen test for Ratner. “They were so top secret about it. Somewhere probably in a vault is my screen test.”
And apparently he nailed it in Ratner’s eyes because he says he had the part. “First they offered it to me. Then they didn’t offer it to me,” he laughed. “Then a huge swath of guys came in to put the suit on. We acted scenes as Clark Kent and [Superman].” (Watch video and more after the jump)
Fraser said the script at the time was the one by “Lost” creator J.J. Abrams and described it as ” really really really cool.” So in the end did he really want to join the ranks of George Reeves and Christopher Reeve? “Oh yeah. Everybody did. Everybody in town was up for this,” he said.

I didnt know that much about it, thanx.

i went over Comics2film but couldn't find the clip. do you mind to show us the direct link? tq.

Wait...Brendan Fraser was at NY Comic Con??? Where?!?!

As for Superman, I could totally see him playing the part. He's actually my first choice to play him.

Old news, He was mentioned in the list of people who came in for a screen test back in '02 or something when Ratner was directing

I knew Fraser's name was mentioned, along with some others, who had a screen test for the part back during Ratner's direction, but wasnt aware that he was indeed the top choice for the role. So, that's news to me. I remember him being on Carson Daily back in '03 apparently very excited about the possibility of playing Supes, but that was it.

I'm sure Fraser could have been very decent in the part. Films that Brendon starred in such as School Ties, display that he certainly has the ability as an actor to play dramatic, serious roles when the opportunity presents itself.

Glad he didn't play Supes. He look like a dope with his eyes, since it look same as Cage. Not to mention I don't think he has the talent enough to play him.

I like Brendan Fraser and even though I can't really see him as Superman (and casting an unknown was always the right way to go), I admire his enthusiasm over the chance at playing Superman.

I especially liked his response in regards to being typecast, if he would have been cast...

"In the end... actor's act, it's a role. Let's have a run at this."

^^Agreed.

And he isn't aging well at all, he is balding in a serious way! Have you guys seen recent pics of him? I couldn't believe it, he used to be very good looking..

Nice to know that he enjoyed SR and thought Brandon Routh was an amazing Supes.

he is saying that he wore the suit.
i think WB is having like 10 keys for cages and frasers screentest and suits.

but we all know that it will come out in maybe 10-30 years. the marylin monroe video will aslo leak.

Fraser definitely had the body for Supes but his voice and facial features don't look like Superman.

if i am reading right and the movie really starts with a fight and then goes back in the past....then i think this movie would make serious money.

Yeah, the JJ Abrams script started with a scene towards the end of the story. Superman's first confrontation with Ty-Zor and Lois' life in danger, before going all the way back to the beginning and eventually building up towards that first scene again.

JJ also started Mission: Impossible III in a similar fashion as well. With an intense scene from the end of the film (Cruise being interrogated by Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Hoffman threatening to kill Cruise's wife) and right before we see how the scene ends, the movie cuts back to the beginning and builds up towards that initial first scene.

Opening a story towards the end and then cutting back through time, seems to be an Abrams trademark. I wonder if he'll start Star Trek off in a similar way...?

He's weird, in some pics like this I think that - cosmetically at least - he would have made an awesome superman

But then you see one like this and he looks more geeky and totally wrong for it

he has those bug eyes that makes him look weird and comical.

I think Brendon would make a good Clark Kent with the silliness & geekyness but not sure how he would be as Superman

Yep. I think Fraser is entertaining, but Supes just don't fit him. Plus, his eyes just look funny for the part as I said before. It just like Nicholas Cage lite.

Yeah. Look at him in "George of the Jungle". He has a well built body that just scream "Superman" without being too massive.

I'm a big Brendan Fraser fan but can't stand Nicolas Cage. I don't think the two look anything alike other than having slightly protruding eyes (not like Marty Feldman, thankfully), and I think Nicolas Cage is annoying and sounds like Ben Stein when he talks. Can't stand NC as an actor - not in anything I've seen yet.

You want to see BF's bod, look for the old shots from Premiere Magazine of him as various "gods" - as Adonis, Poseidon, Mercury, and Adam. He's wearing... not much.

the first pic is from the movie. the second one with hes hes normal clothes no make up,....
what could we make out of this?
with the right hairstyle, suit, make up ,lightining,.... he would look very similar to supeman IMO.

Chicks think he is good looking, he can act, can play geeky or heroic... It would have worked. That said Routh is just fine :o
