I watched the first fifteen minutes of the first episode last week. A guilty pleasure of mine is Regency romances and I'm loving Julia Quinn's books. Well, most of them anyway. But, after the second man-butt appeared within the first quarter hour and feeling a little bored, I bailed.
But then... I did the same thing with the CW Nancy Drew and ended up going back to it and liking it enough to watch the first two season, twice. Each. Si I pulled up Bridgerton again, and I'm glad I did. (Thankfully, there was no more man-butt until late in the season...Personally, in things like this, I don't think any real nudity is required, but that's me.)
Anyway, I ended up really liking it. I actually wish there was more scene with Simon, played by Rene-Jean Page. He and Phoebe Dynevor were great together in any scene they were in. Some of the sub-plots I think could have been shelved, but they did have a number of interesting turns.
Favorite characters were Daphne, of course, and her sister Eloise.
I'll be looking forward to season two, though understanding that, like the books, the main characters will change to suit the new story line. For that I'll be missing seeing less of Daphne, and esp since Page will not be returning as Simon, and the 2nd will probably be Dynevor's last season. But, this will give room for the others to shine, esp as seasons 3 and 4 are in the early works.
I really hope we see more of Eloise and her come-out, as it would be sure to be trying and hilarious!
