I'm a huge fan of this genre. I tend to prefer them over American/Italian gangstermovies for a few reasons. Mainly because of the slang, accents and that nice British feel. The Long Good Friday is not only the best british gangstermovie ever made, but the best gangstermovie of any kind. Ever.

I'm sure most people here know the usual stuff like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch but there is a buttload of little know gems. I will post some recommendations in this thread.

The Long Good Friday is where it's at. Everyone should see it. Bob Hoskins is amazing in this film.

It's so close to being my fav. movie. Bob Hoskins as Harold Shand is my favorite performance of all-time. I absolutely adore every aspect of this movie. The music, the directing, the story, the dialouge and ALL the acting.

It's just mindblowing that it has got the two best scenes right at the end of the movie. In the middle of the movie you had the Abbatoir scene and the Jeff interrogation. Both amazing. But then you get the speech and the one way ride. It just blows you out of your ****ing seat.

Yeah I really love this movie. One of my favorite moments is when Harold is first introduced in the airport. He's such a badass and the music was great.

Yeah, that introduction is top notch. As soon as you see him, you KNOW he is the BOSS. Have you seen Sexy beast? The introduction of Ben Kingsley's character is clearly a hommage to the scene in TLGF.

I saw Sexy Beast a fews years ago. I don't really remember too much, since I only seen it once. I have to watch it again.

It's a pretty good movie, a bit short though. But Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley are both magnificent. There was a rumor once that Ray Winstone was going to star in a movie about The Krays as...the krays. That would have been awesome.

Alright, favorite Guy Ritchie film? I believe Snatch is my favorite.

Snatch, I just love the characters in it. Brick Top, Bullet Tooth Tony, Turkish, Mickey, Franky 4 Fingers and the list goes on... Especially Brick Top. Alan Ford = genius. It's one of my favorite movies, I think I've seen it about 6/7 times. Never gets old.

I watch it at least once every couple of months. Brad Pitt is brilliant in it and so is Vinnie Jones.

Vinnie Jones was also very good in Lock, Stock... ''It's been emotional..'' BTW: Have you seen Revolver yet?

I haven't seen Revolver yet. How is it?

I think it is excellent. It's one of the most stylish movies since Layer Cake. Ray Liotta and Jason Statham are both brilliant. The story is not something you can fully understand the first time, you have to see it atleast twice. The music and direction are great to.

Yeah I definitely have to check it out. I just haven't been able to watch it. I keep forgetting about it when I buy DVDs.

I'm not sure if it has been released in America... Maybe you can download it somewhere.

I got an all region DVD player. I can just order it online.

I do think Layer Cake is better then all Ritchie's crime movies (but not by far) Matthew Vaughn shows huge potential.

I hope Vaughn does another gangster film. Layer Cake is very good.

I'd kill for a gangsterfilm directed by Vaughn starring Michael Caine and Bob hoskins as rival mob-bosses....

Layer Cake is more than good. it's flat-out brilliant. It has insane replay value and some of the best visuals I have ever seen. The Ordinary World scene is one of my fav. ever. Daniel Craig has a piercing screen presence which, I believe, he will use to it's full extent in Casino Royale.

Your right. My words didn't give it justice. It's brilliant. And your idea of Caine and Hoskins would blow my mind. Just thinking about it gets me excited for a film with those two.
