Musical Broadway musical hit 'Wicked' to the big screen

Finally got to see this last night. I've seen the show on Broadway 3 times, probably among my top 5 favorite musicals.

Really enjoyed the film and I think they did a good job of fleshing out the original production with the added bits, which isn't something I usually like in films adapted from stage musicals. Ariana Grande was honestly amazing in this and was probably the standout for me. I would have preferred a different Elphaba but Cynthia was strong in the role, particularly towards the end.

Pacing was a little off at times and it probably could have been 15 mins shorter, but bring on Part 2.

Just got back from seeing it and I now see what the big deal is.

This was great and as of right now I'd rank it only behind Dune 2 as the best of 2024. Everyone turned in a great performance, Cynthia Erivo was excellent and even though I'm not a fan of Ariana Grande even I have to admit she was great in this.

Dammit.

They got my man Drizzy. Now I really have to watch this.

OOOOH AAHHH AAHHHHHHHH!

Are you all still holding space for the lyrics of Defying Gravity?

Since there's Part 2 coming next year, they might get passed over this time with the expectation that they'll be nominated again next year and win then.

Took my 7yo daughter last Saturday to see this, and definitely there were parts where she was understandably restless given that it's a 2 and half hour movie. But overall she loved it; she really really connected to the sisterhood on display and now she's caught the Wicked bug. She's been singing What is This Feeling, and doing a hilariously awful battle cry from Defying Gravity the past few days. It legit reminds me of that scene from Rush Hour 1.

Im rewatching Ugly Betty and its still so current. They have a whole Wicked arc and even see the play

Since Wicked was probably the last remaining really popular musical of the last 20 years or so that I hadn't seen, watching Part 1 inspired me to watch a crappy cam rip of the whole show on YouTube. Not the original cast, but I still enjoyed it. It goes without saying that the movie definitely enhances the whole thing with the elaborate sets. The sets for the show are great but of course extremely limited given it's Broadway.

I keep seeing people call this a deleted scene but I’m fully convinced it’s a flashback in Part 2.
