Musical Broadway musical hit 'Wicked' to the big screen

Theaters are going to see an even more profitable holiday season this year with Wicked 2, Zootopia 2 and Avatar 3.
I'm framing my Christmas this year around Avatar 3, Switch 2 and GTA 6. Gonna be the most legendary holiday I've had in years.

If GTA VI does indeed release when it's supposed to, I'm taking a day off work for that. :o
Let's hope so. If it does, then it's definitely worth taking off work for. Tough part for me will be waiting until Christmas to play.

I'm watching this for the first time right now (and have zero experience with the musical), but is the identity of Elphaba's father supposed to be a twist or something? It's immediately obvious who the actor is in the flashback. Is it just as obvious in the stage production? If it's not supposed to be a reveal, why was the actor shot like that to obscure his face?

It is meant to be a reveal in the show but with the movie I think it was meant to be foreshadowing.

The Wizard was the salesman her mother had an affair with, her green skin a result of the elixir and her powers due to being a child of two different worlds

I mean it’s pretty obvious in both the show and movie. It’s really just a “big reveal” to Elphaba herself.

To that degree, they don't even keep it a secret on the soundtrack. He's listed right there in the credits for "No One Mourns The Wicked".

Elphaba never finds out. She fakes her death right beforehand. Glinda does when Elphaba leaves her bottle behind and realizes it was from the Wizard.

You’re right, I was thinking of the book.

Love the vocal layering.

I had a thought yesterday: now that the first film made a ton of money, and given that part two has double the post-production time, do we think there may be a leap in visual quality on the next one? I can't imagine the studio hasn't decided to put more money into it.

Why pay more when you can pay less? When has a longer production time every translated to better visuals in a big studio production like this? Just sounds like copium to me. Given that these films were shot back to back, I highly doubt there'll be any change to the film's aesthetics. The garish cinematography didn't repel general audiences last time, why would they care now?

I don’t necessarily think Criterion is swayed by recent trends, but dropping an alternative take on Oz while Wicked hysteria is still in full swing feels like a pretty savvy move…

So, finally caught what was probably the last theatrical showing within a reasonable distance. Yeah, I loved this. Glad I waited to see with my mom. Her reaction to Chenowith and Menzel was priceless.
