Gay Mounties tie knot today
By INGRID DEON
METEGHAN Const. Jason Tree said he and his fiance, Const. David Connors, have hardly had time to prepare for their wedding with all the phone calls theyve been fielding.
"Theres been a lot of interest," Const. Tree said Thursday.
He said media from all over North America have been hounding the couple that is set to have the first same-sex Mountie wedding Friday in Yarmouth. Since the couple appeared on the front page of The Chronicle Herald in May, phone calls have been coming in daily from media and film crews that want to attend the wedding.
Const. Tree and Const. Connors are asking the media to stay away from the private affair.
"Our plan is not to have any media there because we want to have a good time that evening with family and friends. Unfortunately interviews with the media doesnt really flow with the event," said Const. Tree.
The couple started dating when they met at the University of New Brunswick more than eight years ago. Const. Tree, a native of Fredericton, is posted at the RCMP detachment in Meteghan, while Const. Connors, originally from Nackawic, N.B., works in Yarmouth.
The pair will be married by a justice of the peace at the Rodd Grand Hotel, dressed in their formal red uniforms. Theyve each written their own vows and will each have a best man. They plan to honeymoon in France and England.
About 100 invited guests will attend the ceremony. Most of them live in the Yarmouth area, but some are coming from New Brunswick and Ontario.
Const. Tree said hes surprised by all the attention the couple has received.
"Its not like its the first same-sex wedding; we simply wanted to get married," he said.
"I fail to see that theres that much appeal."
He said not much has changed in their personal lives since they first made headlines. Both men have the support of their families, friends and co-workers.
"Were no different than we were before. Family and friends are treating us the same; its more the media requests and the calls every morning that start to get annoying," he said.

Just thinking about 2 guys dressed in the tradional stetson and redcoat getting married to each other makes me laugh, a lot. Anyhow I hope they have a long loving, and above all gay , life together.
