I took Andrew Reiner on a tour of the point-and-click adventure, where we saved our heroine from certain death and a few cute creatures from an ice-cream avalanche.

On January 28, Double Fine's point-and-click adventure Broken Age leaves the hands of backers and hits general availability on Steam. It's a big moment for Double Fine and for Kickstarter. They came through. They delivered, and they did it in a new way--working with the fans, and for the fans, to make the game they wanted. And there could be more Kickstarters in Double Fine's future.

Broken Age: Act 2 Dropping Soon

Broken Age won't be broken in half much longer. Double Fine Productions has announced that Act 2 of the new adventure game will finally be released early next year. A precise launch date hasn't been named, but don't expect to wait too long. Alpha testing begins later this month, so the final version should be right around the corner. Act 1 was released earlier this year, and Act 2 was expected to arrive before the end of this year before being pushed back. Broken Age was funded thanks to a very successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012. Many fans were eager to support it because it’s a return to form for Double Fine Productions and founder Tim Schafer, who started out working on classic point-and-click adventure games like The Secret of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango. It tells the story of two different characters: Shay, a boy who lives aboard a spaceship run by an overbearing computer, and Vella, a girl destined to be sacrificed to a terrifying monster. Their stories seem separate, but they finally cross paths during the cliffhanger finale of Act 1.

First look at Double Fine's adventure game running on PS4.

IGN has gone up with 12 minutes of footage from the PlayStation 4 version of Broken Age: Act 2.
As announced at PlayStation Experience, both Act 1 and Act 2 of Broken Age are coming to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita day-and-date with the PC release of Act 2.
It goes without saying, but if you haven’t played Broken Age: Act 1 and want to avoid spoilers for Act 2, it’s best not to watch the footage.

Here’s a quick rundown of the adventure game, via Double Fine:
Broken Age is a timeless coming-of-age story of barfing trees and talking spoons. Vella Tartine and Shay Volta are two teenagers in strangely similar situations, but radically different worlds. The player can freely switch between their stories, helping them take control of their own lives, and dealing with the unexpected adventures that follow.
