The more I poke around the web, the more stuff I find that supports the angle Morrison is taking (controversial, I admit). But really, if the Hurt angle is true, there's plenty of evidence leaning that way. Here's an interesting set of images I found. Tim's father is dying and Bruce comforts him. And then an unnatural interlude occurs.

I'm starting to get a 'devil's advocate' vibe, really. Saw the movie, it was wild. A lot of people are resistant to the supernatural angles, but really, they tend to eat it up in the end. So much debate sparked on so many boards. We'll know more once the true identity of Hurt is revealed (or is that total identity?)

What exactly are you referring to? The theory that Hurt is the devil?

the server decided that my post should be duplicated

I don't get what they're referring to, either. Nothing looks very supernatural... just a bat-hug, haha.

Dr Hurt was working for Darkseid, was possessed by Darkseid, or was a New God himself (the NG had taken human bodies after "Death of the NG"). Many people have claimed that he is the devil (like that cop-Batman that captured Batman). Also, there have been many references to a black hole in the centre of things, something we also heard about Darkseid's heart in Final Crisis. Finally, the Black Lantern symbol is just a stylized version of the Black Glove symbol, so Darkseid is probably behind it all.

Since Darkseid fell back through time after "Death of the NG", its conceivable that he'd form the Black Glove in order to destroy Batman.

I stopped reading the books when Bruce left. I want Bruce back where he belongs, he left once after Knightfall, that was enough. He is the one and only true Batman and they need to bring him back. I miss reading my favorite comics, and I miss my fave hero.:csad::wall::ybat:

There's nothing unnatural or evil going on in those pages, its just illustrating that due to various factors in Tim's life, he has the potential to more or less be just like Bruce/Batman, that he'll become a "Night Monster" too and spend "a lifetime in hell". In other words, there's a very good chance he'll become a cold, hard, badass and spend the rest of his life fighting crime with little to no room for anything else.

Anyway, I thought that it'd been more or less decided that Dr. Hurt is
Thomas Wayne, just not Bruce's dad. Rather the Thomas Wayne who headed the group of Satanists in the 1760s. He probably struck some sort of bargain for eternal life. We'll probably see something like this in the Return of Bruce Wayne series. Heck, Bruce, as "Mordecai Wayne"?, will probably encounter him.

Ah, the beauty of the Batverse...the lines between reality and something else are never clear.

I dunno about the Darkseid angle. Just because Hurt and Darkseid said similar lines don't mean they connect. Maybe they're just different representations of the same thing. Or not.

As for the bat hug...well, it's never good to mix roach powder and crack while staring at a bat poster. :awesome:

While I do miss Bruce (he's the goshdern Batman) you should check out some or the new stuff it's really well done and it is great to see Grayson succeeding what was essentially his father.

This is my theory as well.

Mine as well especially considering the dialogue during his last encounter with Bruce

"If not dad, have you dared to consider the only alternative?" in light of B&R #10 you could say since he never said "if not Thomas Wayne" he could be an alternate Thomas Wayne a.k.a. the satanist ancestor.

Also "The HOLE in things" and "the piece that can NEVER FIT, there since the beginning" we see the chronology of the Wayne lineage in the portraits in B&R #10 from the beginning and towards the beginning of it there is a missing piece one that doesn't fit because it's the black sheep, a HOLE in the wall and that is Thomas Wayne I.

That plus the W like laceration on Hurt/Penitente's back probably stands for Wayne as well.

Your loss buddy, you're missing out on some of the greatest stories Gotham City has seen in years.

Yes yes yes yes yes all exactly what I noticed too. I feel as though our theory is well founded.

Hurt did seem to hurl stuff on the wall like spaghetti sauce. Thing is, we don't QUITE know what the truth is, but it's fun trying to figure it out.

But if Mordecai ISN'T Bruce, and El Penitente ISN'T Hurt/Thomas, and the domino killer ISN'T the Joker, and Sexton ISN'T Bruce then all crazy theories will hit the the wall.

And then more crackpot theories will take their place.
