Anyone still have the screenplay?

Supposedly Bruce is 8 when he falls into the well and is 28 when he returns to Gotham to be Batman... but how old is he when in the Chinese prison? How long did he spend training under Ducard? I know he spends 7 years wandering the world, but that doesn't say how much of that was spent with the League of Shadows.

I think it's absoultely confirmed that he was 8 years old when his parents died, because in the credits it says Bruce(8 years old).

30 years old, because there's a banner in the Mansion when Rachel drops off her present. But, really.....at no point does the film make it necessary or important. We know what we need to know. He was a kid when his parents were murdered. He leaves Gotham at a young age, and returns a man still in his youth prepared to fight crime.

right. mainly, i'm wondering how long he spent under the tutelage of Ducard. does it mention it in the script or novel? just personal curiosity.

I think the novel says its a year.

Really, it's not a long time. He probably spent the bulk of his time traveling through most of Europe learning other things. By the time he runs into Ducard, he's learned a lot. We know he can fight too, so he didn't spend too long a time with the League.

If I had to guess, without the novel, maybe a year and half or maybe 2 years. But, nothing past 2 years, I'd say.

I think people are confused because it is unclear how much time goes by from when he comes back to gotham to the train incident.

My theory.

The movie starts with Bruce at age eight.

It ends on his 30th birthday.

In between there is 7 years, from the time he is about 22 until he is around 29 that he is away from Gotham. One of those years is with Ducard.

When he returns, about 8 months go by that he assembles his arsenal, tests his suit, allies with Gordon, takes down Falcone and is poisoned by Crane. It culminates on his 30th Birthday with the battle to save Gotham from Ra's Al Ghul.

I feel it ends with the rooftop scene only a little near a week after his 30th birthday.

I feel that THE DARK KNIGHT will pick up about 2 or 3 months after BATMAN BEGINS and BATMAN 3 will take place (hopefully) mere seconds after THE DARK KNIGHT's timeline.

See this is where it gets kind confusing. Because in the flashback where he goes to trial alfred asks bruce would he be going back to princeton like he's just starting college (age 18?) and bruce replied he liked it there fine like he just got throught his orientation or something.

Personally, I assumed Bruce had been in college for quite some time. Probably more colleges than just Princeton. And got kicked out of several of those colleges as well. I'd say he'd be about 20-22.

I thought that he either got kicked around like you said, C...or he was at Grad school at Princeton...making him 21-22.

Sounds right...

Well, it sounded like he'd been kicked out.....who knows for what, though. But, his line "They don't feel the same way" does indicate that he'd been expelled or something. That could make him anywhere from 19 to 22 really.

The film tells us, through Alfred, that he'd been gone for 7 years. And, he'd obviously learn alot by the time he'd met Ducard.
