Days of Future Past Bryan Singer Directing X-Men: Days of Future Past - Part 6

Actually First Class did have a small snippet of Wolverine; so that doesn't count. :cwink:

True, but, fans (probably) did not know he was in the film; hence, it was not a selling feature. It was, after all, 24 seconds.

IMO it was one of the cooler parts of the movie

-Wolverine's absence. Extreme comic book fans might bristle at the notion, but Wolverine is the star of the show to the mainstream. His character represents coolness and groundedness amidst all the crazy mutant shenanigans. He's the entry point, and he's the franchise's closest thing to a traditional action hero.

-Its a prequel. Like I said prequels may be obsessively consumed in the comic book world, but they often amount to fanboy fantasias as far as the mainstream is concerned. If these back stories were so essential, then that's where the franchises should have started. The story needs to progress, not regress.

The thing is Wolverine and the X-Men together in 1 film attracts most to the general audience. So after DOFP, I have there's no more prequels, spin-offs, Wolverine movies, First Class movies. Just do films that features Wolverine and the X-Men.

I was trying to counter the thought others made any X-Man film would make
money.I agree with much of what you say.

Also consider wolverine's own solo books sell less than him In X-Men team books. No wolverine solo film was ever going to do as well as X2/Last Stand.
And The Wolverine Isn't going to chance that.

Just like the good old days!!!

And X-Men is the only superhero movie series right now that is doing spin-offs and prequels. Like seriously they need to go back to basics and the present times.

its actually interesting how origins made quite a fair bit less then X3, probably because X3 was bad, but being wolverine it should have done better, it had well known mutants like gambit and cyclops, emma frost and had the charm of being a prequel to fan favorite X2 and yet it didn't do that great

and FC being a film without the favorite Xman made only abit less then Origins, but then origins was terrible anyway and has a bad rep

there is a difference between Origins and FC and only a small difference in box office, but both could be put down to how bad the previous movies were, infact the success of FC may help the success of DOFP, which i don't think many realise

I agree with those saying that the best way for the franchise to move forward is with a sequel without the OT cast (if it were a one or the other situation). As for the "the OT cast is more popular" arguments, the characters are more important than the actors, and it's just a matter of getting core X-Men to join Beast. A line up with Beast, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, and perhaps Nightcrawler and Gambit could headline a successful film.

its exploring the Xmen unverise, alot of Xmen characters haven't had origin storys, most other comic book film characters do, which is why there is prequels

If you adjust the ticket prices and you will know that there's almost a 50 million difference between Origins/First Class.
1. X-Men: The Last Stand $284,097,400
2. X2: X-Men United $283,034,900
3. X-Men $231,718,000
4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine $191,457,300
5. X-Men: First Class $144,387,800

And of course First Class had to be a good movie to earn at least $140 million. Even though X3/Origins weren't so good, they still made a lot of money, now imagine if those movies were good.

There is no winning this debate with psylockolussus haha. You know this.

But yeah, they need to explore otherwise everyone is gonna be left in the dust. Too many characters here.

Yep and origins did bout the same with TLS, dropped

Originals had a good reason to do well, it had several fan favorites, wolverine was already the hero of the x men universe with all the other characters felt like supporting roles

FC came off a bad film with the CA favourite xmen and did only 50 less

They can expplore the X-Men universe by introducing new characters and villains. Making the films more about the X-Men than the Wolverine.

I've said that a long time ago.

You guys probably don't think its possible if they move forward with X-Men 5. But I think its possible.

If they explore future with followup to DOFP we probally won't see Magneto.Inless there
Is another prequel DOFP may be sendoff to Magneto.Bryan Singer has already hinted at using apocalypse for fuutre..That's a whole new avenue to explore right there.

So they should settle with that? you made it sound like 50 million less is a good thing!

While they could earn 50 million more with a X-Men film that features Wolverine and the other well-known characters that were in the original trilogy.

They will always find room for magneto somewhere in the story, future or past

I take we all know about this by now?

Exactly!

In my opinion, DOFP should be the send-off film for the First Class cast, Professor X and Magneto.

Then in X-Men 5, we could have all the fun with X-Men being the X-Men, its not the Wolverine show anymore and there's new villains like Apocalypse or Mr. Sinister and hopefully new X-Men members like Psylocke and Polaris.
