It links to Coventry Telegraph, but apparently the info is from Total Film. Donner would certainly love to get him back, but would Tom Rothman stand for it?

Speaking to Total Film, Singer said: "I'm eternally intertwined with X-Men now. What takes an audience four hours to watch - the first two movies - took six years of my life. So, to not be part of it....It's a shame.

Asked whether he wished he had directed X-Men: The Last Stand, he admitted he had that feeling "before I was watching it, during watching it, after watching it."

Singer added:"It's weird for me to watch it, because I'm so close to the universe. And also Brett is a good friend of mine. But, of course, I would love to return to that universe."

And on the question of whether he might be interested in X-Men Origins: Magneto, he said: "Possibly. The only thing that concerns me about Magneto is that if the prequel were to follow the track I used in X-Men, which is Magneto's history in the concentration camp, then I've lived in that world.

Since his Superman franchise bombed he wants to crawl back with his tail between his legs....hes a great director and all, but its stupid to leave a franchise then come back when your other one fails

I don't care if it's stupid or not. Singer and X-Men are a pretty good fit, and I'd love to see him back on it again.

I don't want him back either. He ruined two superhero franchises. By leaving X-Men he ruined what could've been a good third movie, and he made a crappy Superman film causeing WB to have to reboot it

Look, I won't disagree on Superman, but I don't feel X-Men is in anyway his fault. I think you can lay most of the blame on Fox and Ratner for that one.

My excitement for X-Men was his fault. Interviews with him on X-Men 3 before he took the Superman job had me so excited for the film. As well as how dedicated he seemed to be with ending the trilogy on a high note. Then he just up and leaves cause Superman is his childhood hero, I'm bitter and angry and it's too late. Unless he can take back X3 and make it the way he wanted to make it, I'm done with him and the franchise

It's hard for me to blame him, when he's trying to deal with the most creatively unfriendly studio ever, getting frustrated to no end, when Warner Bros, who like them or not, has been very obliging to artists working on blockbusters, suddenly gives him the chance to make his dream project. I would have done the same thing.

I wouldn't mind Singer going back to the X-Men franchise. Plus, I need an antidote for the last thing, thanks to you Ratner

Well, when we look back over the four X-movies, we can see he was the best-suited.

That's not to say he is the only director who could do an X-Men film or that his films were perfect. But he managed the best, and he coped the best with Fox's micro-managing execs.

I'd rather he make the Magneto movie than Goyer.

Superman Returns was just an oddity. Not a terrible film. But a very off-track Superman film.

Singer's sensibilities are best suited to the X-Men. That is indisputable. He also had a knack for making the most outlandish comic book stuff (Nightcrawler, Mystique, Cerebro, etc) seem amazingly believable.

You can see he regrets making that AWFUL Superman Returns film and stabbing the X-Franchise in the back. Forgive and forget and get him back for X-Men: First Class. Unless they tap Joss Whedon for the job, I can't think of a better director for that project. My only wish would be for him to hire out the fight sequences. That is Singer's only weakness. His standard action is great but every confrontation in X1 & X2 were too abrupt and less effective than they should have been.

Bring Em back. I still dont get why there still thinking of these prequels and origin stories. Just do X4 already and focus on the young guns.

okayyyyy. I would be happy but I'm not thrilled. if i get more wolverine over shadowing out of this, movie franchise and the other characters not getting development which will be more of the same, then I really want fox to loose rights now. and for marvel to reboot the X-Men movie franchise. start over from scratch. I don't care if singers back. if that'll be all I'm getting from these movies sorry. I Want this done right for a change, start over. with out fox in definitely or possibly him.

Good, retcon the 3rd one. All right, never gonna happen, but I'd like to see another X-Men movie that could remove the bad taste in my mouth that X3 and Wolverine left behind.

I think he's the only one with a chance of getting Anna Paquin anywhere near a new X Men movie for a start.

Bryan made similar remarks about being interested in directing Wolverine a few years back and was saying he's like to see the script. So this isn't exactly brand-new news. Good read nonetheless.

Singer interested??, oooook:

X-MEN 4, Fox!! X-men 4!

don't need to say more.

X-Men 4 isn't going to happen.

I'd like Singer to direct Magneto. The scene at the beginning of X1 was great.

I would love nothing more than for Bryan Singer to return to X-Men, but is he really willing to work under Rothman again? I don't blame him for leaving for Superman, not with all the stuff we've heard about that guy.

He blew Wolverine's character out of proportion, he made Cyclops and Storm look second rated. The only other things he made right was and this is to a degree, But not fully were mags and Xavier. ether way X-Men is supposed to be a movie about the whole team/ organization, and what each character brings to it.

I think they need a new director for X-Men. Someone who really knows what X-Men is all about and can really do it justice. for a change. And not under fox control most importantly damn it.

From what I read it doesn't look like he would LOVE to return. But hey, X2 was great instead of the piece of... X3 and Wolverine were.

I am a big fan of Singer's X-Men films and am all for him coming back to do Magneto. No thanks to X-4 and I don't think he'd do a good job with First Class.

Though I liked Singers films I've always despised what he did to Storm + Cyke... I think a new director should be given a shot, or maybe they should give Singer X:FC and see how he does w/o Wolverine in the roster and see what he does

Get someone fresh. I thought Singer did a very mediocre job for the X movies. Keep his booty outta the property.

you're acting like he owes you something.
