Fantasy Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire - Part 3

I was thinking today of all the dropped storylines for Buffy/Angel. Still sad that they were dropped.

Oz returning for the series finale, Willow going over to Angel full time, Buffy actually showing up in Angel, Tara being in Conversations with Dead People...

Willow going over to Angel full-time would've been great. Her rapport with that entire cast was gold. Buffy showing up on Angel after her show ended would have been nice. As for the other two "what ifs"...eh, I didn't really need to see them in those eps.

Yeah, I don't think there would be any way to include Oz in the finale that wouldn't have felt very shoehorned.

As for the Tara thing, I think using that other girl (Cassie, yes?) gave an increased creepy factor, so I'm not upset with the way it worked out.

Agreed using Cassie made the longing to see Tara more pronounced. It also made The first sound more believable. Like she could have been just another ghost speaking for Tara.

After month I finally finished watching both series (using an order guide I found online) on Netflix.I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Willow got annoying enough on Buffy. I'm glad she never became a regular on Angel.

I"m also glad Buffy never appeared on Angel after her show ended. Whenever she shows up everything suddenly becomes all about her. It just would have distracted from Angel's final season. Besides, Angel and Spike became much better characters once they got away from her.

I think you could have played that up in the dynamic and as potential conflict. Given how much the Angel characters change, throw Buffy into the mix and she realizes how much these people are different. I think I would have liked the last half of season four more if Buffy showed up. Take out that god awful story though. I like the idea of Cordelia going bad but it would have been cool to see a Buffy go up against a legit villain Cordelia. That would have thrown her.

I liked Willow on Buffy, the character that got annoying to me was Buffy herself towards the end.Specifically in season 6 (well Season 6 had a lot of problems).I thought Season 5 of Angel was the best season Smile Time,A Hole in The World, and Harm's Way are 3 of my favorites .

I recently scored the entire Buffy and Angel series on DVD for 35 bucks.

Also bought all of the "canonical" Buffyverse comics. The Origin, Season 8, Season 9, Angel and Faith, After the Fall, the Season 10 paperbacks, Tales of the Slayers, Tales of the Vampires, Willow Wonderland, Sike, Fray, etc. All of it.

I've already seen both TV series but never read any of the comics, so I've got some work ahead of me.

I tried the comics. The first few arcs were okay but they quickly became convoluted and fairly absurd

[blackout]Example: Giles dying and being reincarnated as a 12 year old. Harmony getting her own reality TV show, etc.[/blackout]

It got way too absurd for me, so I lost interest.

The comics lost me with the Buffy/Angel flying sex scene. The IDW Angel comics were pretty good though.

Also been playing the first Buffy game on Xbox. It's a surprisingly awesome 3D beat em up. Good combat system, good voice work, good graphics (for 2002)

Thats why i really like them to be honest.
I like that it all goes far more into "fantasy" and stuff.
The show never could go fully towards this direction due to technology etc.
But the comics can let loose on that...i personally really love that.

Oh i dont remember that...well that is why Buffy/Angel is always a bad idea(Buffy/spike shipper here:D)

The Buffy video games have been very good...they get overlooked a lot imo.
Its a shame that we dont get more from them...or in general vampire inspired video games.

I don't so much mind that they did it. I mind that they did it poorly. It wasn't good fantasy story telling. It was the kind of ideas that an 11 year old would have while playing with action figures.

I really wish Joss Whedon would come back and do an anthology series about Slayers. Every season could center on a different slayer in a different time period, it could be called "Chosen" and be perfection.

That could be good. Preferably they would go the Buffy route with a different main villain every year, than what Angel did with W&H. I enjoyed the villains on Buffy. Also, Whedon would be great for a TT movie or show IMO.

It's just a shame that this series still has so much life left in it and nothing is really being done with it apart from the comics.

Angel should not have been cancelled. The show was resurgent in season 5 IMO, after two seasons that I thought were a step down from the first two. I also wish there were more vampire villains, in both shows. I thought they were generally the best ones. I loved Spike, Angelus, The Master, Darla and Drusilla. I liked the Mayor, Glory and Dark Willow a lot too, but the show was at its best in the earlier seasons IMO.

I always felt like TheWB didn't really care about Angel without the Buffy connection. But I'm still pissed at them for what they did to Cordelia.

I didn't really follow behind the scenes stuff back then, but most of the stories I have read in recent years about it conflict with each other. What happened?

"Them" being Joss?

Yes. And the writers who gave us that awful Connor storyline.

Long story short, Charisma got unexpectedly knocked up during Season 4 so they had to change the original storyline, Joss wasn't happy about it and killed off her character.

I'd like that. Joss has more or less laid out a expansive universe too where it could be done.

Given the themes he explored with Buffy, I don't see why he wouldn't be interested in tackling such themes from the perspectives of different women.....better than how it was done in season 7 anyway. :o

The Mayor worked best for me of the non Vampire villains. The older I get the more I can appreciate Season 4 but there was definitely a strange lull in the atmosphere, almost as if Joss didn't know where the show was going. The military was a decent idea that worked occasionally but more or less underwhelmed. Season 5 was better given Joss resolved to give the show an acceptable ending if it didn't gof beyond the season, but Gloria was just a weird villain. Again, the idea of anumbers unhinged God was good but not executed as well at times.

But yeah, I think more could have been done in regards to their fanged villains. The Master was gone before they could even scratch the surface with him. The doppelganger episode where we got a brief look into the Master's new world was easily a highlight of the season. Hell, they could have gotten at least a half season out of that arc, given how much there could have been explored.

he didnt kill her off until the next season, after she had already been off the show for some time. I didnt like what was done with Cordy in season 4 but he worked her pregnancy into the season long plot and made the best of the situation. The episode where she returned and died was perfect and one of the best of season 5. I wish she had stayed when I originally watched but in hindsight (especially given that the show would end soon after that with no resolution), I think it was a good sendoff for her as we actually got closure with her.

Oh man IDA. Season 3 of Angel was perfection and one of the best in the entire Buffyverse. The series had finally hit its stride. It improved with S2 but even that had a very Buffylike feel and formula to it. S--t got real in S3 and I love the dark turn that many of the characters took, especially Wesley who became a breakout. All the characters got amazing characterization and arcs and the season long plot was riveting. Up until the Jasmine mess, season 4 was also really, really good. The Beast made for a fantastic villian and I wish he had lasted longer. I really thought both seasons were better than 5. I really didnt care for the change to W&H and losing Cordelia as a regular.

I agree with this. The Master had a lot of potential, but it was squandered. I wonder what happened with Spike and Dru in that wishverse. I also would have loved to have seen Spike interact with the The Master, both when he was evil and when he trying to redeem himself. I would have loved to have seen present day Angel and Angelus to have interacted with The Master too.
