If you doubt there's an unwritten code of honor among criminals -- governing certain behavior that's just not permitted -- consider this:
Police say a burglar in southern Spain who stole an old Super 8 camera and tapes from a home discovered to his horror the graphic video content of a man sexually abusing boys.
The burglar put three tapes in a brown envelope, hid them under a parked car, and then called police from a public phone, directing them to go find it.
Inside the envelope, police found a note with the home address of the suspected pedophile and a message from the burglar:
"I've had the misfortune that these tapes have fallen into my hands and I feel obligated to turn them in so that you can do your job and put that (expletive) in prison for life."
Spanish national police confirmed Thursday they arrested a 64-year-old suspected child molester this week at his home -- the one that had been burglarized -- in the southern provincial capital of Jaen.
The suspect is a local football (soccer) coach who lived alone. He lured some of his young players into watching pornographic videos together, and then sexually abused them, police said.
Police have identified four minor boys who were victims of the alleged abuse, including a 16-year-old who may have been abused for six years.
The suspected pedophile had reported the burglary at his home to police, listing various electrical appliances that were stolen. But he didn't mention the camera or the tapes, police said.
At his home, police said they found other tapes with graphic content of sexual abuse of boys.
And yes, they're still looking for the burglar, the one "with a conscience," said a police officer in Jaen.

Glad this guy got put away, who says there isn't any honor amongst thieves

This reminds me of why the Penn State abuse case irked me so much. That Asst. Coach that caught Sandusky in the shower showed LESS character and morals than a criminal. I always said that there are guys doing time in the slammer that would have marched in on Sandusky, hit him with a folding chair and gotten that kid out of there.

I've heard of several cases similar to this.

It's not a subject screaming for levity but I have to admit, this sounds like it's ripe to be adapted by Law and Order:SVU.

Wow. Another amazing aspect to this story is that near identical cases happened in Germany, England, and I think the US*.

*I seem to remember reading a story several years ago of a burglar who steals stuff from a safe in some guy's home and finds evidence of the dude sexually abusing a baby. He turns in the evidence to the police and they arrest the abuser. The only difference between this story and the ones above is that the police apprehended the thief and the guy was looking at several years in prison and his lawyer was trying to leverage his good deed into a no prison sentence for his crime.

The weird thing is that I cant find the original article or any article about that story, so I dont know if it ever happened and Im just imagining things.

Looks like the cradle robber...

:word:

... got his cradle robbed.

This doesn't excuse what the burglar did. He's undoubtedly a better person than a sick child-molester, but he's still someone who breaks into peoples' homes and steals stuff.

its pretty bad when a thief/criminal recognize what your doing is so ****** up that even he goes to the cops about it

my only question is, who steals tapes? I mean, I get stealing a s-8 but, why would you anyone steal tapes

I could see if it was just footage still in the s-8...

kinda makes me think someone knew exactly what they were looking for when they broke in...

maybe one of his victims

Could be. That'd definitely put a different spin on it.

This story reminds me a bit of the motivational speaker getting exposed as a child molester after his mansion is burned down in 'Donnie Darko.'

The story does sound a bit too good to be true. My first thought was that there probably wasnt a burglar and that the police broke in illegally and pretended they got it from a burglar.

I bet they're not looking very hard for that burglar.

They should give him a list of all the suspected pedophiles that they've never been able to get any usable evidence on. So he "happens" to break into their houses, "happens" to discover some evidence and "happens" to leave another brown envelope under a car somewhere.

It could be a blacklist. They could make a new show about this. :p

That trully looks like the concept of a tv show or a vigilante, you should guard the rights for that.

Can't tell if you're serious. :hmm

I think cops should be robotic about the law. Like RoboCop. Arrest the thief and pedophile.

And if the thief wants to work independently and anonymously to make a vigilante career out of this, that's cool, but he should still be subject to the law when/if he's caught.

You're a cool dude, mister sex.

As for this article, it's great that the guy got caught, absolutely disgusting. He's probably gonna get a daily dose of a little something that rhymes with grape in prison.

Doubt it. He's old and nasty. They'll probably just beat him up or kill him if anything.

EDIT: Yep, sixty-four.

Pedos aren't popular with most career criminals which is why they are usually separated from the general prison population for their own safety.

Convicted child killer Ian Huntley got his throat slashed open and beaten up by another inmate in prison here in the UK.

Well there a horrible recession in Spain. Burglars will probably steal almost anything right now over there. The tapes were probably with the camera and he just grabbed the lot hoping to sell the camera and tapes on. If your going to sell the tapes with the camera it would make sense to see if they are blank or have footage on them.

So criminals have no problem with murder, theft or even rape with adult victims but when it comes to pedophiles they turn into Batman.

Is it because many of them were abused as kids?

Messiah, like what some here are saying, by all means, these criminals are not good people and that's a given. But some do have a certain code or ethics that the good citizens of the world will never understand. Come on, we've seen so many movies about the 'code' that it should be ingrained into our nerd brains by now, fictional or not.

I won't glorify dudes like this burglar, but I will recognize that there's still some humility in him. And in some strange way, it's admirable.

Think of it like this: In the old Star Trek, Kirk and McCoy admires Khan even though he was a blood thirsty tyrant. Spock of course was puzzled by it, but I guess it's human nature to feel like that sometimes.
