I'm sad about this. I wasn't too into the idea of Sweeny Todd, even though everyone else thought that this'd be another great collabo for Burton and Depp... but I was looking forward to seeing the chemistry of Burton and Carrey (other than the one we all want to ignore in Batman Forever).

Anyway, Sweeny Todd should be good if it's an full-fledged film adaptation... since Elfman hates musicals. I like the way the article states that the eccentricity of Carrey and Burton on the set would be too much. :cyclops:

Overall, not happy about this. :down

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad:/:down x infinity

EDIT: Oh wait, it's only postponed, so I guess that's not too bad?

For an entire year. And in that amount of time, it's likely they'll both move on to other things.

Yeah, besides the fact that the studio is against the pairing of Carrey and Burton.

Dun't looka like s'gonna happen

Im sure i read somewhere that its defo going ahead after the re-rewites that Carrey and Burton have given in

I would imagine that the studio was trying to get it more mainstream and less eccentric, and these are guys who believe they can't do anything wrong. They genuinely believe they can't fail. They don't understand the economics of what they do."
OUCH!!!

Sweeny Todd as I think will be next Corpse Bride, excellent and amazing.

Can't wait

I thinked I'd prefer to see Burton do Todd than an "action" Ripley movie.

i would rather see ripleys beileve or not then sweeny todd, i saw a play version of swenny todd and it was stupid... i hope burton makes it better

so depp is going to be todd??? nooo... this will be the first burton/depp movies where depp is a cannobial where he kills and eats his victims, its a very sick story, i dont like it....

I saw Ripley as a chance for Burton to do something similar to Ed Wood again. I was so hyped for this... especially him working with Carrey... that woulda been great.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about him and Depp doing a project they both seem well suited for, but Ripley's would've been more enjoyable to me.

:down

To he who says the play was stupid....I'll just pretend you did not just call Sondheim....stupid.

And don't hope too high as it is based on that musical and will be a straight adaptation of it (hopefully Depp can sing) as was Schumaucher's mixed result adaptation of Phantom of the Opera in 2004, Colombus's Rent, and the only two that were truly successful transfers of recent in Rob Marshall's Chicago (which benefited from taking liberties of Fosse's play) and the Stroman/Mel Brooks straight adaptation of The Producers musical.

I look forward to see what Burton can do with the material of the murderous barber who helped cut people up for meat pies in London.

It sounds right up his alley, really.

I'm going to sound like an *******, but wasn't Batman Forever directed by Joel Schumacher?

Exec Producer: Timothy Burton

The 2 Ronnies already made the definitive Sweeny Todd:o

I find it some of the musical bashers on this board are looking forward to Sweeny Todd. I guess they fail to realize it was quinessiential Broadway on Sondheim 30 years ago.

They'll be in for a surprise then.
