Iranian president, Ahmadinejad, challenges Bush to a televised duel on ‘world affairs’

Bush chickens out. I remember when Kerry won the nomination he challenged Bush to one debate a month. Bush responded with "There will be no presidential debates. But then after months of pressure and Kerry offering concession after concession and agreeing to a ton of debate rules, then finally Bush agreed to 3.

now he refuses to debate this guy as well. Bush should have this debate. What's he afraid of?

and not only that, but this is just so damn embarassing. Our president's a moronic coward.

damn. i really wanted to see that happen. figures.

this goes hand in hand with the crazy speech Rumsfeld made today.

EDIT:"The White House dismissed the idea of a debate, describing it as a diversion. "

I'm not surprised he refused. He couldn't win a debate to save his life.

You know we're in deep poopoo when we don't think our president can beat a Holocaust denier in a debate :o

While I agree Bush couldn't beat him, the entire idea is rediculous. Can anyone recall any time 2 world leaders have ever had a televised, public debate?

bush is gonna go hide in the bushes....

ok, horrible joke...

Why should Bush, let alone anybody, provide an outlet for a Holocaust denier a platform to preach from?

 he already has a platform. wouldn't a debate serve to project him as the evil nutty villian he is?

you guys are weird, sometimes you're all like "look the nut said something nutty! that prooves that he's a nut!!! and we must kill him!!! and provide ten thousand links to sites where indeed he says something nutty

but then, when the idea of a debate comes along "why would we want to give that nutty nutbag a chance to spread his nutballness?

 right.

If by debate you mean that Bush should stick a nuke in the President of Iran's mouth, then yes, I think a debate is in order.

no, because Bush would be the one sticking the nuke IN.
in Man-thing's mind that makes the Iranian guy the gay one.

i think for bush to debate him would be pointless and stupid, and i actually agree that he should have turned him down...but i dont think thats why bush turned him down. obviously, the white house it scared of the ramifications for if bush got owned...which i could easily see happening.

well, atleast I don't want to nuke Iran. I just want to nuke it's president and his cabinet one at a time. Sure it'll be a huge expense, but I bet it would be great to see it on youtube sometime with music from Mike and the Mechanics.

you ARE history's greates monster.:(

While I'm no fan of Bush, it's clear that when he's being challenged to historically unprecedented debates, it's only for one reason. People KNOW he is not a very smart man and they're just trying to exploit that.

And I'd like to think that he knows that as well and simply doesn't want to be exploited. Can you blame him? It's like if one of the school athletes challenged a kid in a wheelchair to a foot race. He's only doing it because he knows he's got a clear and distinct advantage, so is the wheelchair kid a coward for saying "No, I'm not gonna do it"? Or does he just know his limitations?

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read the post you quoted. He's the president of Iran. Of course he has a platform to speak from. It's not like he's some nobody that muslims never heard of. and if we had a president with an actual brain, it would have been a great opportunity to actually make some ground with the middle east and our own country so we could hear each other's points of view, and give the U.S. and the MIddle east something to ponder constructively for once.

Bush is a terrible speaker and yes he's allways been a coward.

Why doesn't Bush just have someone debate him? He could probably sort out all of our problems if we sent slick Willy to debate him. We could probably avoid war Kennedy style.
