All I'm saying is that no matter what's done, the "poor" are becoming a larger and larger group because the bracket they're in continues to be raised. I mean, we have someone in this thread claiming that anyone who makes under 40k is "poor" for Christ sakes. What are you smoking anyway?
And, as someone in the "middle class", I'm tired of getting hit the hardest with ANY taxes. The rich can afford to pay 50% in taxes and still live like kings and queens, the poor are less and less likely to pay taxes due to all of the incentives, breaks and credits available to them now, so where does that leave the middle class? You know, the ones who busted their asses and went to college, paying student loans into their 30's? Out in the cold.
I'm all for whatever tax breaks come my way, big or small. Is there a better way of giving tax breaks? Sure, probably, but it's funny how anything given is criticized to this extent. Every republican President in recent history to have given a tax break has been accused en masse of giving tax breaks to the rich. It's math, folks. The rich PAY MORE IN TAXES, so when a certain tax break percentage is given, they will OBVIOUSLY be the ones who get the largest cut.
Is it fair? Who knows. All I know is that MY taxes are going down at least A LITTLE. And a little is better than nothing at all.
This is the problem with you conservatives. You think about nothing but yourself, and that causes shortsightedness. If you would demand better treatment from Bush, you might get it. If you would demand that he doesn't just cut taxes for the rich and give you 200 bucks on the side, but rather that he slash middle class taxes and levy some seriously huge taxes on the rich, that would be a better idea! You're letting him buy out his responsibility to be an ethical policymaker, and all you're charging him is 200 ****ing dollars! This really IS a logic-free zone, isn't it?

Or simply abolish the frickin IRS altogether and install a national sales tax.
Ah, yes, kill kill kill kill kill the poor, as the song goes.

There are some workable plans out there for a national sales tax. God only knows why it hasn't been realized yet.
And God, for one, is glad that it hasn't.
I never asserted that anyone making under 40k is poor. You, however, said the following: "Everyone should pay taxes. Excluding certain tax brackets from paying only encourages people to be in that tax bracket." That certainly implies that you think excluding the TRUE poor from paying taxes actually encourages poor people to stay poor. And for that argument, Jesus hates you.

Whatever works, man. I honestly don't care if we tax the wealthy 50%. It's the middle class people who actually WORK for a living who should be given the breaks.
As opposed to the working class, who, you know, just sit on their asses all day. Somehow, the nation still functions only by abusing them and their cheap labor, but yeah, they're not working for a living.
**** you and everyone that looks like you, lazur. You're a typical American middle-class *****. All you think about is yourself. Bush gives you a couple bucks in a tax rebate and you let him trample your rights and further trod upon the downtrodden. You probably call yourself "Christian," or perhaps "moral." Yet you ignore Christ's call to aid the poor, you conveniently overlook the socialism advocated in the Luke/Acts, and it the relationship between rich men entering the kingdom of heaven and camels going through the eye of a needle just hasn't occurred to you.
You are wealthy. By global standards, you are among the wealthiest 5% of the population. So shut the **** up and quit whining, you crying pissant. The rest of the world starves so you can have an SUV and a house in suburbia, and you have the ****ing gall to complain about the taxes that you owe your government, as a responsible ****ing citizen? You, sir, are what is wrong with America. You are the moral decline.
