Bush signs 70billion tax cut into law

So at a certain point its not just a sales tax, but also a luxury tax?

Whatever works, man. I honestly don't care if we tax the wealthy 50%. It's the middle class people who actually WORK for a living who should be given the breaks.

All I'm saying is that no matter what's done, the "poor" are becoming a larger and larger group because the bracket they're in continues to be raised. I mean, we have someone in this thread claiming that anyone who makes under 40k is "poor" for Christ sakes. What are you smoking anyway?

And, as someone in the "middle class", I'm tired of getting hit the hardest with ANY taxes. The rich can afford to pay 50% in taxes and still live like kings and queens, the poor are less and less likely to pay taxes due to all of the incentives, breaks and credits available to them now, so where does that leave the middle class? You know, the ones who busted their asses and went to college, paying student loans into their 30's? Out in the cold.

I'm all for whatever tax breaks come my way, big or small. Is there a better way of giving tax breaks? Sure, probably, but it's funny how anything given is criticized to this extent. Every republican President in recent history to have given a tax break has been accused en masse of giving tax breaks to the rich. It's math, folks. The rich PAY MORE IN TAXES, so when a certain tax break percentage is given, they will OBVIOUSLY be the ones who get the largest cut.

Is it fair? Who knows. All I know is that MY taxes are going down at least A LITTLE. And a little is better than nothing at all.
This is the problem with you conservatives. You think about nothing but yourself, and that causes shortsightedness. If you would demand better treatment from Bush, you might get it. If you would demand that he doesn't just cut taxes for the rich and give you 200 bucks on the side, but rather that he slash middle class taxes and levy some seriously huge taxes on the rich, that would be a better idea! You're letting him buy out his responsibility to be an ethical policymaker, and all you're charging him is 200 ****ing dollars! This really IS a logic-free zone, isn't it?

lazur said:
Or simply abolish the frickin IRS altogether and install a national sales tax.
Ah, yes, kill kill kill kill kill the poor, as the song goes.

lazur said:
There are some workable plans out there for a national sales tax. God only knows why it hasn't been realized yet.
And God, for one, is glad that it hasn't.

I never asserted that anyone making under 40k is poor. You, however, said the following: "Everyone should pay taxes. Excluding certain tax brackets from paying only encourages people to be in that tax bracket." That certainly implies that you think excluding the TRUE poor from paying taxes actually encourages poor people to stay poor. And for that argument, Jesus hates you.

As opposed to the working class, who, you know, just sit on their asses all day. Somehow, the nation still functions only by abusing them and their cheap labor, but yeah, they're not working for a living.

**** you and everyone that looks like you, lazur. You're a typical American middle-class *****. All you think about is yourself. Bush gives you a couple bucks in a tax rebate and you let him trample your rights and further trod upon the downtrodden. You probably call yourself "Christian," or perhaps "moral." Yet you ignore Christ's call to aid the poor, you conveniently overlook the socialism advocated in the Luke/Acts, and it the relationship between rich men entering the kingdom of heaven and camels going through the eye of a needle just hasn't occurred to you.

You are wealthy. By global standards, you are among the wealthiest 5% of the population. So shut the **** up and quit whining, you crying pissant. The rest of the world starves so you can have an SUV and a house in suburbia, and you have the ****ing gall to complain about the taxes that you owe your government, as a responsible ****ing citizen? You, sir, are what is wrong with America. You are the moral decline.

gottam it!!!! When/how are we going to do something to stop this jackass from continuing to rape our children's futures!!?? Seriously, what can we do!? In the sixties, people died in protests for civil liberties, and stood up to this kind of blind corruption . . . and Bush is clearly a f**kin IDIOT!!! If I wasn't performing at my job I'd get f**kin fired . . . the President of the U.S. above ANY other profession, should expect NO less . . . .

When Clinton was trying to go after Bin Laden Republicans were too busy calling him "wag the dog" to help. It's a damn shame.

Not all people in the lower classes are welfare leeches. There are people who work but can't get quite up into the middle class.

In order for the goverment to function, they have to have revenue. If somebody has to take a hit, it makes sense to me that those who will hurt the least(i.e. the rich) should take the biggest hit for the team. It seems like it should be common sense. But a lot of your fellow conservatives don't see it that way.

With the deficit at an all time high and mounting, I simply fail to see the logic behind doing this other than from a political perspecctive. Besides, the people who will really benefit from this mostly make greater than $200K a year already. It's not like they NEED this tax cut.

1. I agree with you that these tax cuts are not needed during the time of record deficit spending. Bush is a fiscal ******.

2. Obviously the rich are going to benefit more from these tax cuts. Why? BECAUSE THEY PAY MORE! You pay more, you get more, simple as that.

I'm not disputing that. My point was that the rich don't really NEED this tax cut. There's no real reason for FiscalTard to do it (especially given the massive deficit), other than to try and improve the Republican's political standing with voters during an election year.

i don't know what a flat tax is, but why don't they just charge everyone the same percent? like, everyone gives 20% of their checks to roads, police, schools, etc. then, no one can ***** about how much the govt. takes from them. well, i mean, people willl still *****, but not as much, and at least this way it'll be fair.

This is just another step in Bush's atroscious fiscal policy. This ridiculous debt is going to put us in a depression within the next 30 years. But that's just the typical baby-boomer attitude, if it doesn't affect me, I don't care. I say we young people cut off the baby-boomers social security and medicare and let them fend for themselves. It's their fault.

Actually, this cut is only for capital gains and dividends, which automatically favor the rich because obviously poorer people are less likely to even have these period. THAT is why its unfair.

If this were a PAYROLL taxcut, the rich would still get more because as you said they paid more in the first place, but the difference is that everyone else would still get a good share. Cuts on capital gains tend to not benefit the poor at ALL, not just to a lesser extent.

They don't NEED the money!!!

The country needs it more than they do. What's some guy who makes $5 MILLION A YEAR going to do with an extra 20 grand? Wipe his ass with it?

I can understand why some guy stuggling to make his car payments and pay the rent need tax "relief". But why the hell does Bill Gates need a tax cut? WHY????

It's all for the rich! Bush doesnt care about America!! He couldn't care less about poor and regular people! I hate him!! Tax cuts dont help at all despite the huge growth!! He's just doing it so his rich friends can laugh at poor people! etc.

Simple...so you will NEVER believe its good, while people who believe in the trickle down theory think its good.

A simple disagreement, thats all.

ppl still believe in trickle down economics? Next you'll be telling me the majority of Americans still believe in Santa Clause.

I don't know which is the bigger lie. :o

so, by your logic, anyone that doesn't have the kind of money your family has is poor? that's some ego you've got there, dude. also, i haven't posted anything else in this thread because i'm not all that well versed in finance, but from what i have read, this tax cut is a horrible idea. what have you added to the conversation, other than repeating republican talking points and smugly stereotyping the left with comments like:

Umm theres about everyone in my conservative group here downtown for our area believes in it, and none of them are rich.

Funny how you cant wrap your head around the fact that people can believe in the trickle down theory while NOT being rich.

No, anyone who has little money or few possessions is poor, or those living below the poverty line, or those who live from paycheck to paycheck.

And I like how if I add something, you just shrug it off as "republican talking points".
