So when you look at it. These are actually pretty similar films. The reason I said I think there are spoilers is because half of this stuff is stuff you'd assume

-Both films tell the story of two heroes(Stark/Clark and Rhodey/Bruce), one hero protecting the world and the other wanting to keep the first hero in check. How so? Well Rhodey throughout the film trying to get Tony to calm down as fear he might hurt someone(for example the party scene where Tony was drunk) much like Batman is trying to get Supes to know the power of humanity because he did hurt people, not directly, but as a result of a major battle.
-The main hero goes before a court hearing due to his imapct on the world(Stark and Superman)
-A third hero arrives and makes a commotion in the form of a female heroine(Black Widow and Wonder Woman)
-After some action, the two heroes come to blows once more(the battle scene where the drones and Rhodes with his armor hacked are trying to destroy Tony and the Batman v Superman scene with Armor Bats vs Supes)
-Then teamup against a larger and more powerful enemy(ie. Bats and Supes against Doomsday(ft. WW) and War Machine and Iron Man against Whiplash)

Smaller Similarities Include
-Main Heroes Save Their Girl(Superman Saving Lois/Martha and Tony Saving Pepper)
-Both Films Contain Hints Towards the upcoming team building up(Iron Man 2 with Nick Fury and the Avengers and BvS with Bruce mentioning a team[obviously the JL])
-Evil Scientist Behind it All(Justin Hammer and Lex Luthor)

Now these are the few similarities there but there are major differences as well. But I just wanted to see anyone else notice these similarities? Which fil do you think is the better out of the two?

They both suck. But, Tony Stark was actually Tony Stark in the film. And that scene with his father talking to him across time is actually kinda awesome.

Both went a little overboard with setting up a shared universe instead of focusing on being its own thing, but Batman v. Superman is sloppier than Iron Man 2 in its narrative. I actually liked the setup for The Avengers when I first saw IM2, but over time I realized I probably would have preferred if Black Widow just got her own movie leading up to it instead.

Iron Man 2 is a superior film and world-building exercise. Far more amusing. Both movies aren't as bad as their detractors make them out to be though.

Reasons why Iron Man 2 is better.

-The Monaco racetrack scene.
-Sam Rockwell.
-The Stark Expo theme song 'Make Way For Tomorrow'--a homage to the 'There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow' song from the Disney Carousel of Progress.
-It's funnier.
-Black Widow beating an army of guys while Happy brags about beating up one goon.
-Tony Stark hungover, sitting in a giant donut.
-Senator Stern (RIP Garry Shandling).
-Patriotism. Love the various U.S. military branch themes.
-Howard Stark.
-War Machine in action, guns ablazing.
-Tony creating a new element in his basement using a homemade particle accelerator.
-Vanko is an underrated bad guy. His fight scenes were quick and sort of weak but he was a good minor threat. Problem was people were expecting the Heath Ledger Joker. Also, his opening credits scene and theme was great.

Iron Man 2 by a long shot.

As opposed to what?

This is too tough too call for me. They both had many mistakes, they both had a lot of stuff I loved. I think it comes down to BvS included a lot of unnesecary stuff that distracted from the main story, while Iron Man 2 cut out material from the best parts (Hammer and Whiplash). One film had too much, the other too little.

I'm surprised you don't know. I'll leave that a 'mystery'. See if you can figure it out.

You forgot to include the poll option, maybe email a moderator.

I feel like anyone who criticized the world-building elements of Iron Man 2 should turn that same critical gaze towards BvS who did it in a much clunkier, confusing, and distracting fashion.

IM2 is clearly better.

Both have the issues of trying to set too many things up, but while that's the biggest problem of IM2, BvS has deeper problems where the narrative and editing created a jumbled experience.

This. Plus in general there is far more that Iron Man 2 does really well (most important being a great portrayal of the title character) than BvS does. Iron Man 2 isn't a bad movie by any means, merely an underwhelming one.

Agreed with all of this. Iron Man 2 much better than Batman v Superman.

All of this! I really quite enjoy IM2. I remember seein it in the theater and just having the best time. Don't forget about the great senate hearing scene!
I cannot name that many great scenes in BvS. Everyone of those scenes brings back a happy memory

Edit: also had a great appearance from Coulson with that great "I will taze you and then watch super nanny while you drool on the carpet" line

Hm, damn. From everything I remember in IM2 it was a great film in it's own. I felt like it was more of an introduction of heroes(War Machine and Widow) than a setup to Avengers.

It also introduced Nick Fury more than his IM1 appearance did.

I always felt in IM2 there was some more story stuff for Vanko and Hammer that should have been in there to flesh them out and possibly more stuff between Tony and Rhodey to make their fight in Tony's house feel a bit more emotional.

Well, Iron Man 2 had a villain, established him and his motivations. They had a great first encounter. Then they had him in jail asking for a burd for the rest of the movie while nothing happened and they had a brief encounter at the end.

B v S wins this one. At least Batman and Superman fought for a long time.

Same here. There was plenty of great potential there, but they didn't give neither the villains nor the Rhodey/Tony conflict enough time to resonate.

Dislike both, but I have seen Iron Man 2 several times. I doubt I will ever rewatch Batman v Superman other than on YouTube for the "Martha" scene. Because that hilarity is golden.

Can you please explain why so many people think that scene is so bad? Because for the life of me I don't get it. I thought it was great.

BvS and it's not even close. It's just more interesting and powerful on every level.

Both could do with another pass of revisions. B vs S because I liked Bruce and Diana more than Tony and Black Widow.

First Batman reveals his fascist, Ayn Rand styled ideology in this because Zack Snyder is a teenager at heart and thinks might makes right sounds awesome. Then after Batman is finally going to stab Superman where he turns this into some stupid macho pissing contest BS with, "You aren't a god, you aren't even a man," he hears Martha and is like "Did we just become best friends? YEP!"

It is such terrible storytelling that a massive coincidence--that both their mothers are named Martha--can cause him to change his entire motivation for the whole film on a dime when it is most convenient to the plot.

In short, it is awful storytelling and awful characterization to boot.

Doesn't even make sense why he would say "Martha" instead of "Mom"?

This isn't even close. Iron Man 2 only introduced 1 Avengers character which was Black Widow. While Thor's hammer's cameo was shown after the credits ended. And I just think Marvel Studios did a better job shoehorning Shield and the Avengers tease unlike what WB did in BvS.

Like lol, I couldn't believe we got a scene of Wonder Woman watching a clip of The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg in one sitting and it happened even before the 3rd act I think.
