By the Bristling Beard of Odin! The Thor Thread - Part 2

Yeah, Thor's still Thor. The first arc with Jane was actually about how, worthiness of Mjolnir notwithstanding, the true test of Jane's character would be whether she could live up to the legacy of Thor himself.

Anyway, the original Thor's story was handled over in the Avengers comics, for the most part. The Beyonders end up being the ones who started the Incursions (and thus the end of the multiverse). Thor, Hyperion, and some others head out to space to track them down, and Thor defeats an alternate version of himself with a hammer that only works for the UNworthy. When Thor and Hyperion are getting ready to fight the Beyonders, despite the odds, Thor finds that the unworthy hammer won't work for him anymore because he regained his worthiness. He laughs at the irony and then he and Hyperion are killed almost immediately because Beyonders. Then everything else ends shortly after and all the Secret Wars Battleworld stuff starts.

So wait, Thor's dead again? I'm a little behind on the latest criss cross event.

Well, Hyperion is back after Secret Wars, so it's tough to really know

Thor was on some art for the new JaneThor series though, so he'll probably be back sooner than later

As far as I knew Unworthy Thor was still alive in the Thors book

but he's worthy again, so will he and Jane share the hammer..?
Split custody?? He gets it Wednesday nights and every other weekend?!

Oh yea they'll share the hammer.

Yea that was bad.

It hasn't. But yes, the original Thor did appear to return on Battleworld in Thors. His worthiness is up in the air, since he still only had his axe, Jarnbjorn, even though it's apparently possible for literally anyone to get a hammer on Battleworld. What's more interesting to me is that OG Thor apparently seems to remember Jane Foster and Don Blake, whereas all the Battleworld-created Thors had no idea. Also, the original Jane was one of the survivors from the original Marvel Earth on Reed Richards' life raft, so I'm sure she'll turn up in Thors too.

it seems like the story needs more issues to properly breathe

Jane, now being a Thor, and basically being a spy from the 616 on battleworld, discovers alt versions of her from across space and time are being massacred

that is an idea with a lot of possibility, and some good drama for her character
be a shame if her reaction comes in the same 22 page issue along with the bad guy reveal and the conclusion, or even worse if she gets no attention

Herc comes out this week I believe

Herc was pretty cool. I love the idea so far

Man another MONTH before the new series? UGH!!!!

I'm not sure I really understand Jane Forster Thor. Jane is dying of cancer due to her turning into Thor cancelling out her chemotherapy. Jane says there needs to be a Thor but there are many others like Thunderstrike or Beta Ray Bill who could fill the role without Jane having to risk her life. There are many other heroes who could do the job.

They had Jane say she refuses to give up being Thor because she loves it which makes her seem more stubborn and egotistical rather than a sympathetic in my eyes. Jane also refuses any magical treatment for her cancer but is ok with using a magical hammer that transforms her into a god.

I like the book and I don't mind Jane Foster taking up the hammer but I think Jason Aaron could of written Jane better. Her reasoning and attitude to being Thor is confusing.

There aren't many other heroes who can fill Thor's role. He's not just a hero, he's the god of thunder. Thunderstrike is just a kid, Beta Ray Bill is off in space living his life, etc. There's a void without Thor of the god who walks among humans and champions them above all others. When Jane took on the burden of Mjolnir and Thor's role, she didn't just gain powers and a fancy costume, she gained a literally mythical heroic legacy.

There's an issue in the previous volume where Frigga lays it all out pretty well. Mjolnir or the worthiness thereof is not the big thing Jane has to live up to; the legacy of the god called Thor, who adventured across the ages, slayed monsters, helped the helpless, and elevated mortals through his own uncommon devotion to them is. Basically, all the reasons Aaron told us Thor is the greatest god the universe has ever known in Thor: God of Thunder. His run builds on all of the previous volumes to get Jane to where she is and explain why her position is so fundamentally important. Thor's the god who actually earns the title through effort and care for mortals, as opposed to most other gods, who take their divine titles and birthrights for granted, and that's important in the fundamental landscape of the universe.

Hey all. I haven't posted on SHH in a while, but I'm posting this here and on some other boards, and I'm hoping for some suggestions.

First, some celebration: for Christmas, my wife got me Journey Into Mystery #84, which completes my collection! If you had told 8-year-old me that someday I’d have every issue of Thor from JIM #83 on, I wouldn’t have believed it.

So now I have every issue of Thor’s main title, covering every volume up to the current volume. So what should I do now? There are various one-shots and mini-series that I don’t have, but I do have some. I’ve been thinking about collecting iconic covers of other titles guest-featuring Thor (like my all-time favorite, Silver Surfer #4, which I already have, or like Defenders #10, which I just picked up).

This is where I could use some help from you guys. What are some guest appearances, one-shots, or mini-series featuring Thor that I need to add to my collection? I won’t list the various odds’n’ends that I have already, just post any suggestions you might have. I really appreciate any suggestions!

MY all time Fave mini was the Blood Oath run, second these days, is the Thor God bomb with Future All Father Thor, Present day Thor and Pre-Hammer Thor should be pretty easy to find still.
I personally enjoyd the whole concept in the recent Battleworld Thors. It's only 4 issues long

That still doesn't really explain why she won't accept a magic cure in place of the regular treatments that she's not getting due to being lady Thor though.

The obvious explanation for that is pride, but that explanation kind of makes Jane look like an idiot when you dig past the symbolism of humanity relying on itself. I don't know, I don't think Aaron's really explained that part of Jane too well so far. Hopefully in the future...

Same here. Blood Oath, God Bomb, then Disassembled.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I've got those already, but those are all great choices.
