C. Nolan's Interstellar - Part 2

That said, Inception was secretive, but nobody knew exactly why. Nolan wasn't going on like "The last shot is a doozy!" Whereas Abrams markets his films as being alluringly mysterious. The mystery is part of the marketing.

Nolan doesn't quite go that far. For TDK, Inception, TDKR, the marketing presented us with the gist of the conflict and action as any good marketing does, but said nothing about any potential mystery. That was extra when we saw the movies for ourselves. And that was because the mystery is tied so closely to the plots. "What does Batman do when Joker gives him no good options?" Well, you'll have to see the whole movie to understand it. "Is Cobb in a dream world or real world?" Means nothing with no context. "Who the heck is Miranda Tate, really?" Again, nobody cares if you haven't seen the movie. There's nothing they can do to use Nolan's secretiveness for the marketing, but Abram's secretiveness is the plot itself, pretty much. "What is attacking New York City?" "What's in the train?" "Who is this terrorist guy the Star Trek crew are going after?" All that can get butts in seats.

If you were the general public and didn't keep up with movie news, you wouldn't even know that Nolan was renowned for being so mysterious about his projects. We do, because we read about it. But what the general audience sees are the trailers and TV spots, and they have no reason to believe that there's this intriguing mysterious thing in anything he ever does.

Another audition tape for the movie, from Sterling K. Brown

I thought this was excellent! Anyone know if the dialogue's from another movie (like the other two tapes had dialogue from Contact) or not? Because it's not from Jonah's draft.
Ftfy.

Yep. The marketing on Cloverfield especially relied on the mystery gimmick.

A lot of Inception's marketing was also misdirection. I remember misrepresenting the meaning of the act that is Inception to extraction instead in one of the trailers.

No one gives me a clue where can I find the leaked script?
c'mon... I don't like to beg.

Christopher Nolan Casting Young 'Homeland' Actor in 'Interstellar' (Exclusive)

Director Christopher Nolan is casting "Homeland" actor Timothee Chalamet in his epic sci-fi movie "Interstellar," an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

The film is a co-production between Warner Bros. and Paramount, and representatives for the latter studio, Nolan and Chalamet did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Matthew McConaughey stars alongside Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine and veteran character actor Bill Irwin ("Rachel Getting Married"), whose casting was first reported by TheWrap.

Story follows a heroic group of explorers who travel through a wormhole and into another dimension.

Though it remains unclear whether Chalamet's deal has closed, the details of his role are being kept in a Batcave somewhere, as Nolan is famously secretive.

Jonah Nolan wrote the original script, which has since been merged with one of his brother's original sci-fi ideas. The director is also producing with Emma Thomas and Lynda Obst, while Jordan Goldberg will exec produce with Caltech physicist Kip Thorne, who serves as a technical consultant on the project.

Interesting. Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, Bill Irwin and Timothee Chalamet. Impressive and unique cast. Having read the script I have NO idea who he'll be playing... Thoughts?

Cool.

What is interesting about that is that the original script is said to have been merged with his brothers sci-fi ideas. I think Interstellar will be vastly different from the script that is out there.

It's pretty obvious given the age of the actor.

The older son of Cooper (assuming that Murph is now in fact a female). If Murph is still a male then it could be young Murph.

Yeah Chris added stuff to Jonah's script, apparentely implementing an original idea of his own to the story.

Wow Casey Affleck is in the film? That casting news completely flew by me.

I knew the script was out there and I don't intend to read it but was it any good?

Insane cast.

Hmm.. But didn't [BLACKOUT]Tom (Cooper's older son) have, like, three lines[/BLACKOUT]?

Wow, this cast is shaping up. I had missed the last two bits of news. The kid from Homeland is a very good nab, I remember thinking that he was a standout when I watched Season 2 a few months ago.

Doesn't matter really. It's a Nolan movie which means that you want to be part of it even for just a few minutes. Also, it's not like this actor is a huge star where you'd be shocked that he appeared only for a couple of scenes. Heck, if this wasn't a Nolan movie, this casting wouldn't even be reported. :funny:

Well I'm also going to repeat, the script seems to have/most likely has been significantly changed too. A lot of it may no longer be the same. A part of me thinks Nolan took the basic ideas of the wormhole stuff, but I kinda have a feeling lots of it has been changed.

I think
Murph's role and his (now her?) relationship with Cooper
was expanded A LOT and will be the heart of the story.

Do you think that's a good change to the script? (I haven't read the leaked script)
