C. Nolan's Interstellar - Part 2

Will it be as complicated as inception? My brain was stressed out following it the first time...

Don't worry. There are lots of characters explaining everything that's going on. :oldrazz:

I only like one person from this cast, but I like Nolan movies so I will give this a chance

ppl will start praising Grace after he does 1 film with Nolan

people were praising him long before Inception

I thought you said the script was relatively lacking in exposition?

The caveat is, of course, that is an earlier Chris Nolan-less draft. Who knows? The additions in his version could simply be adding clunky exposition. Maybe Topher Grace is male Ariadne.

I've stayed out of this thread to avoid ANY type of spoilers but I'm loving this unorthodox cast Nolan has assembled. Topher? I can't say I'm excited about that selection but if anyone can get a good performance out of him, it's Chris.

Some random thoughts on this film (if I may):

I have to say, I'm relieved that Nolan is exploring such different territory. He really seems to have shuffled up the deck and radically changed his "image" or "style", if you will. A drastically different cast that is outside his comfort zone can only be a good thing.

- This feels like a Nolan cast, yet it totally doesn't.
- Plus it's such a wilder sci-fi idea than he's done before.
- It's with Paramount - not just WB.
- And he's not with Wally Pfister anymore.

Only two Nolan veterans returning (Hathaway and Caine)? Awesome.

I might be more excited for this than I was for TDKR, one reason being, it was basically Christian Bale Featuring The Cast of Inception. I really thought we would have a similar problem with Interstellar. It's not a bad thing, but I was worried that Nolan was getting too obvious.

John Lithgow being in a Christopher Nolan movie is incredibly awesome.
Ellen Burstyn being in a Christopher Nolan movie is incredibly awesome.

I love, love, love that Nolan takes chances with actors like Topher Grace and Wes Bentley. That's such a cool move, and nobody of his caliber is really making moves like that.

God, I'm just really, really impressed, relieved, excited, etc.

NOTE: How long will it take before the Internet realizes there are no black people in this cast?

Also he has a new costume designer: Mary Zophres (Catch Me If You Can, Iron Man 2, Indiana Jones 4, No Country For Old Men)

I am eager to see Nolan's take over a Space SiFi movie
where prometheus failed to deliver the Mystery I think Nolan could Succeed in Making a SiFi movie more Grounded in reality theme .

I know. :cmad:

Oddly enough, I almost think it's more racist to purposely cast minorities in movie casts like this, just to be diverse. As if to say, "Look, we need a diverse cast to sell tickets to more demographics... Any Latinos we can round up?"

If anything, Nolan is not being racist, because he's just casting his damn movie, and that's the cast he wants, not the cast that will be more politically correct and successful according to suits.

You know, this is a very unconventional film, when you think about it. More so than Inception.
i dont think Danny Boyle was racist when he cast actors for Sunshine. everyone could have been white in Sunshine. :wow:

its no problem. Nolan is playing the hollywood game. its a fact that Nolan likes to cast known actors. and there are no big known black actors who would be side characters for a small paycheck. :oldrazz:

it will get interesting if a female character talks to another female character. :woot::up:

This cast really is funky, and I mean that in the best way possible. Just an interesting stew of "so hot right now", "haven't seen him in a high profile role in a while" and "haven't see him in a movie period in ages". Hopefully they all have great chemistry together and some magic happens on set.

I loved the script. It's definitely the most ambitious thing Nolan has tackled yet. And it feels like an old school Spielberg film. Visually it should be something we've never seen before. It just has all the elements of something really special.

BUT, and this isn't really a bad thing... It doesn't have that "Whoa" element to it that Inception or Memento had. There were random moments in Inception where I just sort of leaned back and thought, "Damn, this is nuts," whereas with Interstellar, the story isn't necessarily crazy or mind-bending. It's a pretty straightforward and accessible story. That's where I think Nolan has made some big, big changes. Christopher Nolan isn't the type of man who is going to take a concept and story like this and just make it simple. There's going to be a head-scratching factor to it that the 2008 script doesn't have.

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense considering that Jonah originally wrote the script for Spielberg to direct. He had to play to his sensibilities. I think taking a seemingly familiar and accessible high concept like this and "Nolanizing" it should lead to good results.

I haven't read the script though and intend to stay as far away from spoilers as possible.

From what I remember there was only one character who talks about the clean slate device.

Be he talks about it twice. :oldrazz:

Has the film announced its DP yet? It will be such a shame to lose Pfister's work. The stuff he could have done with a film that sounds like this would have been amazing.

Hoyte Van Hoytema will be Nolan’s cinematographer for Interstellar. Hoytema is a Dutch national who has worked on a handful of well known films, such as Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy and The Fighter. Hoytema received the Nordic Vision Award in 2008 for Let the Right One In, and is also a multiple Guldbagge Award winner.

I'd say he's a worthy successor.

I personally would rather have seen Robert Elswit be Nolan's next lenser but Hoyte is indeed a suitable replacement.

Isn't he filming again with PTA ? Maybe he declined.

Yes he's currently filming Inherent Vice with PTA so he wasn't available.

Someone took a picture of the film crew in Nanton,Alberta a few weeks ago, I know it's a blurry image but you can see Hoyte(dressed in Black) next to Chris in the middle.

:wow: This movie exists!

For some reason, I never believe a movie is truly happening until I see a trailer. There have been too many posters, set pics, concept art, and casting of other films that never got made, that it makes me paranoid. Tim Burton's Superman is one example, and now Jane Got a Gun is following suit. Not to mention a billion other examples.

Must be really cool to do some pre-production in a movie with this scale.

I get the feeling that This is going to be really cool movie , Looking forward to see it :woot:

Nice Pics Project862006 but Every time i see Don I get a flashback of Captain Planet :oldrazz:

Can somebody PM the script pleaseeee .......

Thanks a ton in advance :)

Kind of funny that happens right when people are calling this the whitest movie ever assembled. :funny:

#conspiracy theory begins

Woo! Loved Oyelowo in Rise of the Apes and I just finished watching Cloud Atlas, surprisingly, and I thought Gyasi was quite good in it. Although, I can't help but find it funny that there was *****ing about Nolan being "racist" and then two black actors get cast at once, lmao.
