September 3, 2008 - IGN Movies participated in a conference call today with Nicolas Cage for his upcoming action-thriller Bangkok Dangerous, during which time the Oscar winner was asked about the status of Ghost Rider 2.

"Yes, actually we had a meeting with the studio [Columbia Pictures] about a month, maybe three months ago," said Cage, who played biker-turned-spirit of vengeance Johnny Blaze in the 2007 Marvel Comics screen adaptation. "And we had a nice talk about that character and maybe taking him international, maybe to Europe."

Cage continued, "Go on a motorcycle tour through Europe and he's connected with the Church, if you can believe that. So it sort of has elements to it that are very much in the zeitgeist, like Da Vinci Code and things like that."

That actually sounds pretty awesome to me. It'd definitely mean a different feel. I like it. Here's hoping that they get this baby underway.

Replace Cage now! He is the worst big name actor left in Holywood. His monotone voice, his hairdos and his acting. Outside of Adaptation and Leaving Las Vegas, I hate Nic Cage. The only thing I respect about him is his love for comic books.

He will make this movie be terrible! Have you seen him act lately? Wickerman, Nation Treasure 2 and this new movie Bangkok Dangerous, which is apparently so bad Lionsgate won't let the critics see it before its release.

The only reason he got into Holywood is his uncle, Francis Ford Coppola.

Lionsgate needs to let Marvel have the character back, and soon.

While I, admittedly, have not seen "Elektra", I am willing to call "Ghost Rider" the worst of the Marvel movies, hands down.

About time we had some news. I enjoyed GR and would gladly pay to see a sequel.

I enjoyed GR more than most people did, but there are a lot of flaws that need to be ironed out for any sequel, nice to hear they are moving forward though, its been a while.

I hope this time around they make ghost rider nastier and meaner!

Meh, the problem with GR is not the actors, it's the director *** script writer Mark Steven Johnson. Going for cheap, MSJ acted as director & lousy writer.

They should hire a better director and a more professional script writer coming from Marvel.

I don't see the point to a sequel. Public opinion of the first movie is that it sucked as far as the plot and dialogue went. Unless this is a complete overhaul in quality, the audience for a sequel is going to be limited.

Don't know what to think, I didn't really like the first one.

Happy and pissed at the same time. These feelings were the exact same ones I had when GR came out. Happy that my favorite Marvel Character got the big-screen adaptation, but pissed to no end at the lousy 10 second action sequences, vomit-inducing dialogue, unsuspenseful story, and lack of any character development.

If they make a part 2, they should really work on a killer script that should have epic fight sequences, lots of suspense, and no cheesy ass dialogue of the 1st one.

I shat bricks when I first heard we'd get a GR movie.
I'd actually really liked the directors cut of DD and felt that MSJ might deliver.

The movie was awful, cinematic trash, it was brainless and obvious and not in a fun popcorn flick kind of way.

The acting from much of the cast was piss poor.
The script was piss poor.
The antagonist were piss poor.
The humor was piss poor.
The fights were short.

They'd really need to forget all they did in the first and actually give this sequel atmosphere and dept.

NOO!

After this awesome year of comic book movies Cage wanna make more of the ****ty ones?! ********!

He told the same thing to MTV

In an interview with MTV News, Cage talked about “Ghost Rider 2,” and if you’re to believe him, the film is most certainly going to happen — and it’ll have some help from a higher power. “There have been talks and good ones with where to go with the character,” explained Cage. “It looks like it will take place in Europe and the character will work with the [Catholic] Church. It’ll be a completely new experience. It’s exciting.”

While the film is still in its very early stages — no major “official” announcements have been made — Cage was happy to share with MTV everything he knew so far about the next adventures of Johnny Blaze — a former stuntman who, after a deal with Mephistopheles, becomes the vengeance-seeking Ghost Rider. “It hasn’t progressed to [who the next villain will be] yet to be able to say, but I do know it will be shot in Europe and there will be some sort of connection working with different religious figures,” he hinted.

Sounds like an interesting idea. I'm all for a sequel, and would like to see them make one that's an improvement over the first film.

Glad a sequel is being made, but not sure about this connection to the church thing. Unless they are bringing in elements from the more recent comics (anyone who has read them will know what I mean).

I didn't think it was that bad. The only thing I didn't like about it was the CGI sequence of Blaze turning into Ghostrider being used over and over.

and over again.

If this is to succeed (both financially & critically) it needs a new writer, a new director & to be seen as a re-boot in the way TIH was. They could have GR's origins in the opening credits ala TIH.

I remember hearing Cage wanted to have it in the same universe as Spidey. That'd be cool if he gets his way. It might be a good reason to explain Morbius in a Spidey movie. (Right now a vampire in one of the movies would seem stupid. But if you establish Spidey in a universe with demons, it won't seem so strange)

It could easily happen, since Sony owns both franchises. I wouldn't want it to, though. There's a campiness around Cage's Ghost Rider that Spidey really doesn't need in a future film. Especially not after Spider-Man 3.

One thing that worries about this story of GR in Europe is Financial aspect.

MSJ always complained that he didnt HAVE ENOUGH MONEY to have big action sequences, that he didnt HAVE ENOUGH MONEY to film it in the USA, so instead they went to Australia.

If JB is riding through Western Europe, this movies budget is going to be inflate again and we wont have any money for good action sequences...AGAIN.

Other than the short fight scenes, i had no problems with GR.

Bring on the sequel. :ghost:

They could just shoot in somewere that LOOKS like Europe, doesnt GDT always shoot in the likes of Prague, etc because its extremely cheap, no matter were the movie is set?

I wouldnt worry anyway, as i'm still not convinced it will be happening.

GR hasn't been in europe that often in the comics.. if ever, that I'm aware.. but hey, always interesting.. go for it, and bring in more crazy villains from the comics, like the Orb, Scarecrow, blackout, death ninja, etc.

The 1st film was definitely flawed, but I don't think I hated it as much as some of you seemed to. It was an average comic film, IMHO.

I'd be all for a sequel, just get a different director. I think MSJ can write these projects fairly well, but like David Goyer, he needs the filter of a good director to trim the fat.

So now their really is going to be a 2 film? Hope they have better writers.
