Cagney and Lacey reboot

I dunno, rebooting something cheesy like Hawaii 5-0 is one thing, but C&L was something both critically praised and broadly popular, I can't an upside to a reboot. Might as well just do another unrelated female-led police procedural like Rizzoli and Isles or something.

They should have gone for like an Asian American with a Hispanic lead. That way it felt actually diverse. We've seen tons of B/W combos, albeit less with female duos.

I think their fear of going too diverse with the ethnicity is offending an already touchy viewership when it comes to rebooting/remaking old television series.

Some people get mad at even the slightest changes let alone completely remaking a character in another ethnicity or gender (such as Higgins in Magnum P.I. or Pete in MacGyver for however brief that lasted).

A Starsky and Hutch reboot with a white Huggy Bear would be interesting.

Well they passed on picking this up to series. I'm mixed about it. I would've liked to see a new version of it, but not with Sarah Drew and Michelle Hurd. Particularly not Michelle Hurd. She is boring. She's been boring on Blindspot, occasionally in Lethal Weapon, Hawaii Five-0, Daredevil Season 2 etc.

And she was 51. I think they should've gotten actresses in their mid thirties, or ones who could pass for that at least.

And get two people who would have real chemistry with each other than two people who seem randomly thrown together.

Actually if they had them both in their early 30s, then they could show them right from the start at the academy. Instead they seem to have gone for Lacey as the senior and seasoned partner, and Cagney more as her junior.

I preferred having them both graduating the NYPD academy at the same time, both being patrol cops first before becoming detectives together. I think the show needed to start off like Rookie Blue but gradually become something else as they grow in seniority.

If they recast this pilot with some younger actresses and more interesting ones, it would be better. Perhaps it would also get picked up, because it does have potential.

And I agree a black and white partnership has been done to death. Maybe they were trying to emulate Lethal Weapon?

they could simply alter the title as I'm sure anyone under 40 has never heard of this show.

They should have gone for Asian/Hispanic IMO. Something different

People have heard of it even if they didn't necessarily watch it at the time. It has filtered into pop culture.

They even referenced it in Timeless the other day with two characters pretending to be them.

That is pretty close to the original made at a time when the first female cops on unlimted duty where making detective and leadership ranks in big city police departments. So the two women as partners, a first in the original, is no longer a socio/political thing. It is like the NBC Prime Suspect trying to steal the valor. well at least the legacy, of a period piece about the first female head of a murder squad just to use the name when every third homicide detective on TV is a woman.

But Lacey as Cagney's superior officer who is far more senior is simply not Cagney and Lacey. It is an entirely different premise and dynamic. Why not simply call it something else then instead of trading on the name?

With all these remakes hopefully next is Manimal
