California School Bans Dictionary.

Why would they need an english dictionary? dont they have their own language? lol

anyway, i think this is ridiculous! We are becoming more and more babied. Between that and being "politically correct", i'd say we're all slowly losing are "freedoms"...if we had any in the first place.

For crying out loud, people are way too damn sensitive these days.

Here's the District's Mission Statement: "The Mission of the Menifee Union School District in partnership with students, families, and the changing, diverse Menifee Valley communities is to develop lifelong learners with the skills, knowledge, and desire to be respectful, compassionate, responsible, and contributing citizens by providing a high-quality education in a nurturing, challenging learning environment in which all children are empowered to reach their full potential."

What kind of partnership exists if one mother has the power to empty bookshelves of dictionaries? It seems that the district has acted in a way that entirely goes against what it claims that it sets out to do. And how on earth can this be a "challenging learning environment" where students can "reach their full potential" if they are denied access to the most basic reference material?

How surprising that school officials fail to do what they're paid for...

Oh, I ****ing give up on this state.

I just don't understand why on Earth anyone would justify removing the friggin' dictionary. I mean... How do you sell that to the school administrators?

Probably the same way you sell the idea of removing all Mark Twain books from the curriculum and school library.

Oh, I ****ing give up on this state.

Hell, I gave up on society quite sometime ago.

People are getting dumber and dumber as time goes on, as well as super sensitive. Sorry but society has no room for super sensitive types, stay in your houses, caves and huts and stop banning things making the rest of society stupid because of it.

Damn. Catcher is one of my favorite books too. Also nice avatar. ;)

I remember quite a few years ago I'm not sure which part of California wanted to incorporate ebonics as a form of language.

And how you get rid of all concrete books in a library and put everything online instead. This doesn't shock me at all.

so, the state that has a free MJ clinic wants to ban dictionaries? :o

No more English dictionaries for California.......no, they will have Austrian dictionaries!

.

Cenk from theYoungTurks made a great point about this...

...what's stopping those same students from looking up 'oral sex' on the net and finding things infinitely more graphic? the stupidity of people amazes me....i'd say sometimes, but unfortunately it happens often.

Have pens and pencils been banned yet?....hey, they can be used as weapons! :hehe:

Im still waiting to hear that teachers are all banned and that students will teach themselves from now on. :awesome:

Well, those kids can log on to Dictionary.com instead of using the old dictionary now. :oldrazz:

Someone really needs to smack these people in the head. I wonder what else this woman would like to ban?

The fact that this happened in California doesn't surprise me at all.
