Just a hunch. John David Washington is the son of Denzel Washington, and he's been gettting stellar breakout reviews as the lead for Spike Lee's latest film BlackKKlansman, which just won the Grand Prix Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. The trailer:

Marvel is known for snapping up established and fast rising talent. JDW fits the latter criteria (he seems to be on a similar trajectory to Chadwick Boseman before Marvel nabbed him for Black Panther). And JDW actually looks more like Wesley Snipes (who is the image of Blade for most people) than his own daddy.

Sounds good to me. I just want another Blade movie. I don't want a Netflix series, he's already proven he can carry a movie franchise.

I'd be disappointed to see more Blade movies without Dracula. Vlad expands the MCU in a way that a cool black guy who hunts generic vampires doesn't.

I agree with the first part, don't agree with the second part. Blade is the man. But the new Blade movie series should be framed as a Tomb of Dracula franchise with Blade taking the center stage. I think Dracula could be an incredible addition to the MCU, especially once we enter a Post-Thanos/Loki MCU. We need more big bads, and if done right, Dracula could be a villain that could pop up in multiple films like Thanos or Loki.

A Tomb of Dracula franchise could open so many avenues for the MCU. The supernatural side of the Marvel Universe has always been strong, and it could provide something totally fresh for this ever-changing cinematic universe.

My prediction, Wesley Snipes is the only person who can play Blade.

I agree with OP. John David Washington looks good enough for the role.

I can't wait to see Blackkklansman! From the trailers, I could definitely see Washignton as Blade. And heck yes to getting Dracula as a big bad in the MCU, epic red armor and all! The Marvel world of vampires has HUGE potential for the MCU! Even just as a Netflix series, like the one I pitched, Blade deserves a comeback.
