From SHH front page:

Casino Royale helmer Martin Campbell told press at the Chinese premiere for the film on Monday that he would not likely be directing the next Bond film despite the global success of the 21st installment.

Campbell also directed the first Pierce Brosnan 007 film, GoldenEye.

Screenwriters Robert Wade and Neal Purvis said earlier this week that they expect shooting to start at the beginning of next year.

James Bond 22 is currently scheduled for a November 7, 2008 release with Daniel Craig returning as the super spy.

Well, there's goes the franchise.:csad:

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean really, this is really bad news. Did they not learn the first time around with GE? Yes, Campbell seems to be the master of resurrecting Bond and the studio should do everything in their power to get him back. Barbara Broccoli should be on her knees (If ya know what i mean!) doing what she must to get Campbell back.

I truly see this franchise going the way the Pierce-Bond era went; a strong start with 'Goldeneye', then, the gradual dissolve into the abyss that ended with the likes of 'Die Another Day'....

This sucks, but I figured he wouldn't do the next one as the Bond films seem to always have a different director for each film.

Don't over-react, please. This is a franchise thats been around since 1962. Campbell leaving isn't gonna kill the franchise. There's been like 8 directors in this franchise. A 9th isn't gonna hurt.

I think there's been more then 8, but yeah, Bond was around along time before Campbell showed up.

Let's just hope they keep the tone of CR. If they go back to the DAD ridiculous formula, I will not be happy.

1. Terence Young---> Dr. No, FRWL, Thunderball
2. Guy Hamiliton---> Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die, TMWTGG
3. Lewis Gilbert---> You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker
4. Peter Hunt---> OHMSS
5. John Glenn---> Everything Bond in the `80s
6. Martin Campbell---> GoldenEye and Casino Royale
7. Roger Spottiswoode---> Tomorrow Never Dies
8. Michael Apted---> The World Is Not Enough
9. Lee Tamahori---> Die Another Day

Nine...close enough. :)

Don't be surprised. The most serious Bond films are almost always followed up by the most over the top. Case in point:

FRWL > Goldfinger
OHMSS > Diamonds Are Forever
GoldenEye > Tomorrow Never Dies

And, its also vice versa

You Only Live Twice > OHMSS
Moonraker > For Your Eyes Only
DAD > Casino Royale

WTF? This was announced months ago. I was it during an interview with Martin Campbell on the set of Casino Royale.

Goldfinger was a classic bond film, and is one of the best bond films to date. It may have been a little over the top, but it was in a good way. If the next bond film is anything like Goldfinger I will be cheering.

so campbell is out. so who's next to direct 007?

Well, Whedon is available now. .....yeah, I know, that's a horrible choice.

I never said Goldfinger was a bad film. In fact, Goldfinger is my favorite Bond film. All I said was that the most serious Bond films are almost always followed up with the most over the top and vice versa. Over the top doesn't have to be a negative thing.

i think he meant the "newer improved" bond franchise.... with craig

and what is campbell gonna do instead of casino royale anyways?

Oh, i know the Bond franchise has been around, but i was referring to the new and improved 'formula' that Casino Royale injected into the series, could soon be flushed down the drain...i hope i'm wrong but i'm skeptical.

Newer improved Bond franchise? Yeah...okay. I'm sure thats what people said when Moonraker's follow-up, For Your Eyes Only, was released. Too bad the next film was Octopussy which featured Bond riding a tiny airplane out of an horses ass.

Yes. Yes, Yes..new and improved. You say it like it's not new and improved.

The fact of the matter is i get the same eerie feeling when i heard this news, as i got when it was announced that Brian Singer was departing from the X Men franchise....and you saw how dandy that turned out

I really wonder why Campbell's not returning;

1)Is he leaving because 'he' wants to?
2)Because he heard things about the sequel he didn't like?
3)They didn't want to pay him what he wanted?
4)The producers didn't want him back for whatever reason?

I'm really curious to why.

I know the film making process can be tedious and tear one away from family obligations and whatnot, but come on Campbell, we need you...

Get the director of FRWL.....if he ain't dead or in a nursing home.

Dude, its just one film. It hasn't changed the entire franchise. Did you just start paying attention to this franchise or something? Each Bond film is its own thing. Thats how this franchise has lasted so long. Besides the rule of Bond is that the most serious film is almost always followed-up by the most over the top.

FRWL > Goldfinger
OHMSS > Diamonds Are Forever
FYEO > Octopussy
GoldenEye > Tomorrow Never Dies

Note that I'm not saying over-the-top is a bad thing. Bond is an over-the-top character. This is a guy who's a spy but everyone knows who he is! In real life he would have been dead since day one. lol. James Bond is male fantasy. End of story. Don't be surprised if the next film is slightly over-the-top and more fantasy oriented.

Yeah, exactly, right, i haven't been paying attention to a franchise i grew up on...:whatever:

I think your the one who hasn't been paying attention. Didn't you get the memo where the studio and film makers specifically stated that the new Bond will be grounded in reality, moreso than ever before? And that the whole fantasy thing is a thing of the past? Why do you think they are talking about not even including 'Q' in the next one? The days of OVER-the TOP fantasy and gadgets are a thing of the past.

More importantly, your forgetting one major factor my friend; the fact that Bond 22 is a direct sequel to Casino Royale. Therefore it is imperitive, more than ever, that they have the same feel; so you listing all the previous Bond flicks of the past and saying that Bond, as a franchise has always had different directors over the franchises long history, is well, not applicable, to say the least.

Well, first off, I don't think the franchise is going to go to pieces. No Campbell is bad news, especially after he turned in the best bit of direction on a Bond film, ever, but they can do well. If they go after someone like Stephen Frears or Matthew Vaughn (both have been in talks with EON in the past - Frears was signed to the JINX project and Vaughn was in talks to direct CASINO ROYALE), then they'll be good.

Furthermore, I doubt BOND 22 is really going to be all that more fantastic. They didn't spend all that time tearing the Bond formula apart just to go back to it - they know what works for Craig, and they'll be anxious to stick with it. Wilson and Broccoli have both said they were tired of the Bond formula, after all. If anything, I tend to think BOND 22 might take the direction further... kind of like how LICENCE TO KILL followed up THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.
