Can there ever be a real life superhero? Or, a person with what we consider to be super powers??
I remember a news story about some kid in Russia, or something, that has some form of gigantism. As far as I could remember, the young child was the size and had the strength of a much, much older child. Anyone know the story I'm talking about?
There was a development in Japan fairly recently where a professor had developed a special suit. This mechanical suit gave the wearer increased abilities. Increased strength and speed. It was said that this suit could give the wearer up to ten times their own strenght, which is quite incredible. If I could remember any names I'd get a link to an article but I can't.
I'm sure we've all heard about the "bionic woman" recently. A woman who's arm is completely mechanical. She has much better range of motion than any previous mechanical arm. The arm is actually connected to her actual nerves! Her brain controls the arm's every move! And they have these sensors hooked to her chest, so she can feel sensations when people touch her chest, it feels like sensations in her hand.
So, we have incredible advancements in the field of science. I don't think it's terribly unrealistic to expect a type of "Iron Man" suit sometime in the future. Is it unrealistic to think one day we can wear suits that will allow us to punch through walls or run like an olympic runner?
And what about "freakish mutations", like the case of gigantism or whatever the hell it was that I had heard about. Is it possible that one day a person can just naturally be bigger and stronger than most other people? There are all sorts of freakish incidents... why can't there be a case where a person is born with incredible abnormal strength?
I think Iron Man and Captain America are the most realistic superheroes we can hope for. If a suit is developed though that really works, that really gives people incredible strength and speed and other attributes, it would most likely be used for the military and the police force. So that's not strictly superhero territory.
The same goes for experimentation into the area of trying to create peak humans. It seems that it would be very possible with today's "designer baby" technology to raise a whole bunch of humans that are at the peak of human ability.
