Well given that most batman films did not do extremly well overseas...how much do you think the dark knight can gross worldwide?

Batman Begins foreign gross is bascially the same as US, furthermore, even the original Batman(1989) failed to win IJ3 worldwide.

With the marketing campaign being limited to US alone...will The dark knight managed to gross enough to be the top 3 in worldwide box office?

Probably not, and that's not the goal anyways.

They aren't looking to shatter box office records with these films (although I'm certain they'd be thrilled to do so).

Sure thing.

Just kidding!

it won't become one of the top grossing movies of all time. not the top 20 anyway. and the marketing will reach a world wide status once it actually gets goin. the REAL marketing hasn't really started yet.

but if you're right about the other batman movies not doing so well overseas, then this one probably won't be any different.

Meh, it'll never set the box-office on fire sales wise, no Batman film ever has worldwide, however it'll have a solid base. I see around $300 Million domestic, same worldwide.

It is known internationally, like TEOL.

I still don't know what the hell TEOL stands for.

Is this intentionally or internationally?

I still don't know what the hell TEOL stands for.

We tell you at 1000 posts. It's part of the password you'll need to get into the leaked script archive over at Batman-On-Film.

I still don't know what the hell TEOL stands for.

Hahaha. That was bugging the crap out of me for months until I finally asked the same question. The whole time I pictured a fat, Italian pizza chef with a moustache...kinda like Mario...who would shout out "TEOL!" with a thick Italian accent, while jumping up in the air for joy...you can see why that bugged the crap out of me...

And since I don't have 1000 posts either, I shall give you the answer to this ancient mystery.

TEOL = Teehee + LOL. Yeah, I wasn't impressed by the originality either...:word:

Let met show you how it's done!

top 3, no.

Narnia, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and Bond are all locks to beat it.

The previous five Batman flicks' overseas box office earnings...

Batman $160.2 million

Batman Returns $104.0 million

Batman Forever $152.5 million

Batman & Robin $130.9 million

Batman Begins $166.5 million

I think TDK could become the first Batman flick to pull in more than $200 million overseas. This will probably give it enough juice to pass the $411.3 million worldwide haul of the first Batman movie to become the most successful global performer of the franchise.

The top worldwide earner of '08 will in all likelihood be Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. That will probably pull in between $950 million and $1 billion. Indy IV and Narnia should also be huge global hits.

Sorry about the spelling and etc.

I was wondering if there is any way of increasing the overseas gross...I mean most blockbuster film nowadays can earn alot more money overseas as compared to US alone.

Do you guys have any marketing suggestion to increase the overseas gross? Hopefully, TDK can reach 500m and above...

TEOL = Teehee + LOL. Yeah, I wasn't impressed by the originality either...:word:

I think it's problem is that Tee Hee by itself is rather lame. Who says that? Not to mention the fact it doens't roll off the tounge as easy as LOL. I mean how do you pronounce it anyways? Spelling it out, or (tee-ol)? maybe (tee-all)?

I always pronounced it like the color teal. But that's just me.

Well I know for sure that TDK will be a hit here in Finland. Batman Begins was the number one movie three or four weeks in a row in 2005. But it didn't manage to gather more than little over 100 000 spectators. That's still pretty good considering that we have only 5 million people living here in Finland.

The movie is normally considered as a big hit if the movie gathers over 200 000 spectators. But the 2005 was such a crappy year anyway here in Finland. All the big movies pretty much flopped and only Harry Potter gathered over 300 000 movie goers. Usually we have maybe three or four movies in a year that are able to cross that line.

And yeah, Bond, Indy and Potter will propably be the most popular foreign movies in finnish theaters next year. Casino Royale was insanely popular, almost 300 000 spectators if my memory serves me correctly. And I know Indy will be a huge hit. And Potter will do well yet again, it's still the most popular thing going on among the kids. And you guys have to remember that all the Hollywood movies has to compete with finnish movies. That doesn't sound like much but the thing is that the finnish movies are almost always the most popular ones. Even though they usually suck IMO.

But I'm hoping at least 150 000 spectators for TDK. I hope the finnish people will go and wittness the pure awesomeness of The Dark Knight!:brucebat:

I'm thinking TDK has a good shot at $450 million worldwide: $250 million domestic and $200 million overseas.

Just speaking in terms of Batman vs. Bond... CASINO ROYALE made $426 million worldwide. BATMAN BEGINS made $166 million. Bond will make roughly 2/3 of it's money internationally. THE DARK KNIGHT won't come close overseas. Batman does its business domestically. The two are virtually opposites in that fact... CASINO ROYALE was huge overseas whereas BATMAN BEGINS made the majority of its money in North America.

Just a list of the international numbers of the most recent installments in the series mentioned in this thread:

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX (2007): $646 million
CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE (2005): $453 million
CASINO ROYALE (2006): $426 million
INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (1989): $277 million

All four of these franchises are huge worldwide. Of the four, I'd say Indy is the only one that is "guaranteed" to out-gross Batman both domestically and internationally, but I do think that THE DARK KNIGHT has a decent chance to better Harry Potter domestically and a very good chance to beat out the other two in North America as well.

But the problem is even casino royale managed to beat batman begins worldwide...

Yeah, Begins made $372 million worldwide so your numbers sound very realistic. People now know what Nolan and his crew are all about. People fear the Knight!
