I'm really surprised at the quality actors going into this film, Bale, Freeman, Oldman, Caine and now Ledger and maybe Hoffman.

Could this truly be an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and even win that title.

This may be the first comic book superhero movie to win an Oscar.

There can be some chance, but honestly I doubt.

Anyway, if The prestige wins some main Oscar Awards, we can think that TDK won it :D

No I don't think so the oscars will never take a comic book movie seriously.

Well, I really really doubt it...at least not one of the golden awards (ie: actor, director, picture)....but you never know. It may just be so damn good that no one can deny it.

Well if any movie will ever have a chance it's this movie. It's essentially a oscar friendly cast, with a oscar friendly director. Making a action/thiller/drama. It's still a genre film, but the cast could easily give it a chance.

Despite how great this movie will be, The Academy are very biased about movies that are nominated. Spider-Man 2 was one of the best reviewed movies of the year and didn't get one nomination that wasn't score or SFX at the Golden Globes or Academy.

Award shows are so biased, it's not even funny.

No, it can't win an Oscar because The Academy is comprised of snobs who consider sci-fi and fantasy to be lower forms of cinema.

Yeah, that really hurts it's chances.

Even if it did win it would probably be something like Score or Cinematography.

So long as Nolan does not treat this film as a sequel and more of a film that holds its own (like Begins), it might have a chance. Oscars will never consider sequels as big contenders, especially if they are comic book related (with the exception of the Godfather II).

*cough, Oceans 11, cough*

good film with an oscar worthy cast.... no chance in hell of it being nominated for an oscar....

Sorry about K in Knight, you can tell it was supposed to be there because there isn't a capital N guess i'm way too tired.

And if LOTR:ROTK can win which is Fantasy so can Batman, it's based more in reality anyway.

While I agree with you regarding the Academy Awards, SM2 was a bit too cartoonish and too much of a light-hearted popcorn flick to be taken seriously as a film, much less by the Academy.

Spider-man is to Batman as O-Town is to Led Zeppelin.

Thats because Spider-man 2 didnt deserve an oscar, it was a fun summer, pop-corn flick, little more.

I think if everything is perfect, and the feel of the movie is just as dark, mature and gritty as BB, it may have a shot at a nomination - but actually winning one? I don't think so.

Absolutely, I could see Caine and Freeman for supporting actor and Bale for lead actor.

Not really. Spider-Man had heart and is someone everyone can relate to. Spider-Man 2 was not only an action movie, but so a romance movie, which upped the appeal to just about anyone. Spider-Man 2 was one of the best reviewed movies of 2004, if not the best. It wasn't just a popcorn movie, because SM2 had alot of substance.

The Romance of Spider-man 2 was teen bop sit com quality. Guy likes Girl, Girl likes Guy, Girl dates other guy to make guy jealous - not deep. It was not enough to make a person who didn't like Spider-man like Spider-man 2, because basically it was the same love story Spider-man had.

Spider-man 2 was a fun film, it was not a great film. Batman Begins was a great film.

IMO I think Supporting Actor is just as possible as Lead Actor - the question is how possible I think an oscar for Leading Actor is.
