Can you swim?

This came up in college today while I was talking to a bunch of friends. We got into talking about sports, and I mentioned casually somewhere along the line that I can't swim. They were all totally horrified by the fact that I can't even float on my back in the water...

So, I've been roped into going swimming with them tonight... and it made me curious. Can you swim? Am I really that unusual?

Yeah, I swim laps...typically in the winter.

Please tell me you do that in a heated pool, indoors. Loads of people swim in the sea every day here- in freakin january!

I am a free style swimmer,when i was 10 i went to a pool party, before i learned how to swim. I leapt off the diveing board, and found out I could swim while in the deep section.

die from drowning and bull sharks!!!

i'm from n.y so coney island is no whoop for us. when i went down to miami beach 3 years ago, they whisteled every 5 minutes for us to come in on account of seeing a shark or thought they saw one.

why i kept going in boggles me to this day

I was on a Tournament Swim Team when I was younger...I have a couple of trophies from that time period. I can swim a 45 ft pool in 7.3 sec flat.

In a lap pool, so yeah...those are heated and indoors.
