Been on a few of the news channels this morning, so apparantly it's a recent hot button. Don't really give a **** myself either way seeing as I don't drink, but if you can handle it at 18, do what you want. Though the argument about being able to fight in the military vs. the drinking thing is somewhat moot, as military personnel can drink overseas anyway.

It'll probably help out. A lot of people I know lose a majority of the appeal of drinking when they hit legal age anyways. Like, it's not so cool anymore to sneak in beer when you're not 21. Or 18, whatever.

I've seen 40 year olds who aren't mature enough to drink, never mind lowering the age to 18.People are going to drink no matter what age they are.

Not me, or anyone I know. Seems myself and my crew started drinking more the day we were allowed to drink, legally, in bars and other establishments.

Well, I don't mean they stopped drinking in general, it's just they didn't get wasted every weekend now that they could do it whenever they please.

Its 18 in most other countries, seems like most of the dopes i see on American tv cant handle their beer at 21! so god knows what it would be like at 18

I see what mean, and I do agree. A lot of people only started drinking because it was illegal and they got, for lack of a better word, a rush from it. When they hit 21 some started drinking less or just stopped all together because said rush was no longer there since it was now legal.

Personally, I thinh they're all a bunch of quitters with sand in their vaginas. :o

The point is that they can choose to serve in the military and die for their country but can't choose to enjoy a beer. They're old enough that they are trusted to defend their country with a loaded weapon but not old enough to judge whether or not it would be wise to drink a beer.

I'd be all for making 18 here, then I can drink ASAP

Which I've always thought was BS. The drinking age should be 18. I know some argue that an 18 year old wouldn't be able to handle it. But, as others have pointed out, I've met many people 21 and over who can't handle their liquor and make piss poor judgement calls when it comes to drinking.

I blame the stupidity of the person more than I do the alcohol.

Exactly. There is no "magical" age at which wisdom is obtained. Most of your body's development is completed by the age of 18, so alcohol at that age will not affect the developing body the way it would a child or teenager. Idiots will kill their brain cells a few years earlier rather than later, but at 18 they may actually stand a better chance of regenerating those brain cells than they would at 21.

The drink age is 18 here in the UK and after legally drinking for 4 years now I find alcohol has kind of lost its appeal. When your 18 or 19 its great but after a while the novelty of it wears off. All my friends who are 21 are kind of bored of alcohol as well.

Your beers weak anyways, and the kids will be drinking it regardless.

Then the Americans drink at 21 and act like *****, the should lower it just to get it out of the way hahaha

Common sence is that some drink, even if they are under age..but i think that's a bit too young.

Same here and its been less than a year for me! Cant really afford to drink lately anyway...life as a poor student, its the best

Actually, if it's a command endorsed event, ala a Mess Night, Marine Corps ball, etc., you're allowed to drink. At least in the Marine Corps anyway.

In many states - including but not limited to Florida and California - its actually legal to drink or carry alcohol even when your under 21. You just can't buy it.

onto the psychedelics and needle usage eh? ;)

I wonder why the government made 21 the legal age. I don't think it should necessarily be legal, but at least decriminalized.

The "Government" didn't - there is no "federal" drinking age. Its all done by state.

Some states, however, have different rules regarding drinking. Some states it legal to drink under 21, but you can not purchase alcohol. Some states its okay to drink if you are married. Some states you cant even carry alcohol.

I'm for lowering it, it's not like the age restriction stops anyone from getting it

Europe's alcohol laws actually make a lot more sense :o

Needs to stay at 21. People say it doesn't matter because underage kids already get alchohol which is true but there needs to be some kind of restrictions. I just don't think it's a good idea for kids who for the most part will still be in High School(Senior Year if not held back in the past) to be able to drink at that age.

It's like the morons who want the speed limits raised because....."people are always driving faster than the current limits anyways". Idiotic, in that case you raise the speed limits and guess what...........people will be driving faster than those new limits.

I guarantee you the number of DUI's as well as deaths and car accidents will sky rocket if they make it legal to drink at 18.
