The Winter Soldier Captain America 2: News and Speculation - Part 1

I think having Hawkeye in the film would be overdoing it. They already have Falcon and the Winter Soldier in this film, let alone Black Widow, and we'll most likely be getting Sharon Carter as well.

Having half of the Avengers in the movie would kind of make people think it's a mini-Avengers...there also needs to be some separation of the team so the franchises stand somewhat on their own. Cap needs his own set of supporting characters apart from his Avengers one.

Agreed.

I absolutely agree that having a ton of the other Avengers in each movie is probably too much. The fact that these events, i.e. the team-ups, are only coming every few years is what makes them special.

However, I also wouldn't mind seeing Hawkeye pop up in a cameo. I could see Black Widow getting a supporting role, but I think seeing Hawkeye somewhere in the movie wouldn't be a terrible idea.

This is the movie where Hawkeye showing up makes the most sense. As the movie is going to have a lot of SHIELD. The dynamic between Cap & Clint is fantastic too.

Despite their great dynamic together, I loved the fact that Clint and Natasha were introduced on separate missions. Makes his absence in The Winter Soldier reasonable, if he doesn't appear.

I didn't pick on much of a dynamic between Cap and Clint.

In the comics, it was kind of like a disciplinarian father and a rebellious son, but of what we've seen of him, Clint's more like a disciplined soldier and the wiseass of the team is Stark.

Hey, Cap and Tasha and Clint did "The Walk" together in The Avengers. That's gotta count for something, right...? :csad: You can't do "The Walk" unless you're a team (or mini-team).

(I still wish the entire Avengers had done "The Walk" at some point....woulda been iconic and gif-worthy.)

If I had to chose between the 2 it would be Natasha, as it's Winter Soldier. However, if they were doing any other story line for a Cap movie I'd choose Hawkeye.
Oh my gosh, getting so excited just to see the Winter Soldier outfit!

The whole point of the MCU would be remiss if there weren't at least cameos of Hawkeye, Banner, and Black Widow during Phase II (sadly, I can imagine them only mentioning Banner). And I agree with those who are saying that this movie makes the most sense for a Hawkeye cameo appearance. That said, I wouldn't mind being surprised with an IM3 cameo or anywhere else, as long as it's appropriate and doesn't distract from the story.

Personally I would like to see the references get more creative besides like news footage in the background on screens.

For example, give us view of a scene of the two movies connecting at a certain point and just show it from different points of view from each character.

The Avengers movie prequel sorta did this. Like it showed Black Widow at different points of the Incredible Hulk movie.

Flashbacks get tedious...
You clearly weren't a LOST fan either then I assume.
Nor Buffy or Angel where flashbacks happened a few times a season.
As mentioned....nor Highlander.

Flashbacks can, when done effectively, enhance the narrative and add depth to motive for characters.

You can't really compare flashbacks in tv series to movies. A show has an entire season (or seasons) to tell a story; a movie generally has around 2 hours. There isn't enough time to move the story forward while spending a good portion of going back.

There's no way to tell this story without using some flackbacks

Exactly, I also dig the deleted scene in Avengers for Cap. That's really how you should start with the film.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if TWS opens up with a flashback as to what happened after bucky fell, him being found and all that.

I wouldn't be surprised if it opens with Steve and Bucky doing their thing, killing some Nazis, laughing and having a good time. Then Steve abruptly wakes from this dream, alone in a dark, sparsely furnished apartment.

...and then Hawykeye walks into the room, still dripping wet and steaming from his hot shower...

Yeah. I imagine it starting with the Howling Commandos kicking ass in the war, with an emphasis Bucky and how lethal he was.

I could also see the movie opening up with shots of a figure in the shadows lining up a target with a sniper rifle and finally showing part of Winter Soldier's bionic arm as the trigger is pulled and the gunshot is heard.

I really want them to reveal that Widow has the super soldier serum in her.

I hope they don't. I think it adds to the setting and the general theme, that one doesn't have to be superhuman to be super.

I also would prefer that Cap be the only one who has the serum. Failed attempts at recreating it (ala Banner/Hulk) are okay, but if you have too many people running around with stable forms of the serum, even if they're derivatives, I think it takes something away from Cap.
